Update: Marburry will be in camp!

It has been believed since Donnie Walsh took over the Knicks in April that Stephon Marbury's tumultuous days as a Knick were numbered. Now the matter is days from being official, Newsday has learned.

Walsh is having trouble getting comfortable with the idea of handing someone nearly $20 million to go play for another team. Especially when that player might be in the best shape of his career and focused - yes, rarely a word attributed to Marbury - to prove a great deal of critics wrong
.

Great, further lesson our weak barging power with Tinsley. Looks like Marburry will be sipping mojiotos on South Beach with Wade.

Who knows, maybe Memphis might go insane and offer more than the MLE for a fifth PG

I wouldnt worry about him going to Miami. Some team overseas will pay him more. Im sure he's more about money than winning to be honest.

Well he's made no secrets about wanting to go play in Italy, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did that.

I could hope that he wants to simply get paid.....but the guy already has the vast majority of $$$ from his previous contract.

I'm guessing that if he had a chance to play with Wade, Marion and Beasley for a season or two to make a solid run at the Playoffs.......that he may actually take a chance with the Heat. Especially if he signs cheap.....this would allow the Heat to go after another FA next season to shore up the lineup. He won't have the burden of carrying the team when he has Wade running the show alongside Marion. Also...you know that Riley is going to make one of his patented d*ckmoves by coming out of retirement to coach the team when the Heat start to gel.

He complained his way out of Minny because he couldn't stand being second fiddle to Garnett...He may have changed since then, but there's really no evidence to lead me to that conclusion.

Miami (and others) will make a run at him for the min, but they're not going to pay more than that.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

I don't think the Celtics will gamble on bringing in Marbury. They like Rondo, and why bring on a potential cancer in Marbury when they currently have great team chemistry.

^^
They might do it as a reaction move to losing Posey, he was a big part of that championship last year.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. The guy has been washed up since he was drafted. He's one of the most selfish players to ever play, so I would think he'd go where the money is, which means probably Italy. I can see the Heat having interest in him, but I don't think they're interested enough to cough up that much money when they could essentially get Tins for the same when you consider the contracts they could trade away to get him.

most likely Boston will pick up Marbury for the vet minimum. Realistically, a lot of teams will be interested in Marbury, especially since he'll probably get the vet min. Its too little money for teams not to be interested. Boston was never interested in Tinsley, so I wouldnt be too worried

I don't see him playing for the vert minimum. He's far too "important" for that!!!
Realistically though, this is all speculation, he might hang around in NY for a while yet.

hes gonna be still making just under $21 million next season from the Knicks, I doubt hes going to be that greedy and and take on a deal with a crappy team when he can get onto a team like the Celtics and possible win a title. After making the kind of money that he did, I dont think money is an issue for him anymore.

This is the same story that we saw with Finley. Dallas dropped him and he signed with the Spurs for the vet min because he was still entitled to get the money from Dallas

Apparently we were to fast on the call.

"
He's coming to training camp," Walsh said of Marbury in a telephone interview Tuesday evening

Marbury

A newspaper report out of New York Tuesday morning said the Knicks are planning to waive Marbury by the end of the week. The move, which has been speculated about for months in the media, would eventually lead to a buyout of the $21.9 million Marbury is owed in the final year of his contract.

"This thing is initiated in the press and then I have to ask questions about it," Walsh said, sounding somewhat perturbed. "I haven't approached [Marbury] about a buyout."

When asked whether he's reached out to the point guard to alleviate concerns about his status with the team, Walsh said, "I talked to Stephon once and he seems OK about all of this."
