Center, point guard hottest spots in rotation battles
Sep 30, 2008
Three of the five starting positions are set, if not quite in stone then in wet cement, with Danny Granger and Mike Dunleavy on the wings and Troy Murphy at power forward. That leaves point guard and center -- the positions most profoundly effected by the offseason trades – to be settled in training camp.

"I think every position for playing time will be hotly, hotly contested," said Coach Jim O'Brien. "I would be very, very surprised if Murph, Mike and Danny were not our starters. But nobody played more than 34, 35 minutes for us last year so there's a lot of playing time up for grabs. Just because you start doesn't mean you're entitled to 35 minutes on the basketball court. It all depends on the depth that you have."

And the Pacers have plenty of depth, so just exactly how the lineup and rotation will sort out should prove to be one of the most intriguing storylines of the preseason. Here's a look at the positional battles.

Regardless of what JOB is saying about the PG spot, you have to believe TJ will start and get most of the minutes. It just wouldn't be fair to him to bring him in from Toronto where he had problems as a duo with Calderon, and do the same thing with Jack. He wasn't very happy in Toronto when he wasn't starting and not getting most of the minutes.

The real battle will be at Center. We have so many options here and it will depend on who is on the floor at PF. I'm not a big fan of Hibbert and Foster on the floor at the same time. They both contribute in similar ways, in grabbing rebounds and help defense. Neither would really be the focal point of the offense when on the floor. I think our best bet would be Rasho at C and Foster at PF. You start them, and then you bring in Murphy and Hibbert with the second unit. Murphy's offense contributes to Hibbert's hustle and defense. This gives Hibbert a chance to start off slowly and if he performs well with the second unit, then maybe somewhere during the season you start him and see how he does.

I agree about the TJ Ford comment abit but what most people didnt know is that TJ Ford never said he was angry or unhappy with the Calderon situation nor did he show it. He was a professionally through the whole thing, obviously he wants to be a starter, everyone does but I dont see it becoming a problem.
