Shawne to DAL for Eddie Jones, $1.8M, 2 2nd rounders

Post#1 » by MUpacersSIC » Fri Oct 10, 2008 6:34 pm

I've seen several reports that Shawn Williams has been traded to Dallas for two 2nd round picks and cash. Anyone know if this is true?

I have not read anything else into it but it does make sense. They may be truly considering keeping Cro and this would allow for that I believe. The 2 draft picks would probably be used to help shop Jamaal. That is my thinking. I'm not so sure it is true though.

Apparently Eddie Jones will be included for financial reasons, but will be waived upon his arrival.

What can you tell us about Shawne? I havent seen him play too much unless it was against the Mavs.

He has loads of potential, but is looking like one of those players that will never live up to it. Does anyone else think this trade was made to get the cash to transfer to the JT to Denver trade?

I am not at all happy about this trade. I know I'm probably one of the one or two people here that really liked Williams. DAMN!!!!!

The cash was to buyout Eddie Jones.

Good riddance Shawne. Only one more knucklehead left.

I'd prefer to keep Eddie and use it for the Tinsley trade. I like Eddie Jones a lot, he'd be a good player for us.

It hurts to see Shawne go out that way. I would rather seen him go for another player with potential which I guess could be found with a 2nd rounder but I really don't see that happening as they probably are to entice Denver.

About 3 years ago, maybe, but now, he's just done.

The cash is to cover the contract on Eddie Jones. Essentially, we traded Shawne Williams for 2 2nd round picks straight up, as we will receive enough cash to make Eddie Jones disappear.

Especially if Croshere is good enough to make the roster at this point in his career, I'm ok with this deal. Even if he's not good enough to make the roster, I think I'm ok with this deal.

This deal leaves us with 15 guaranteed contracts and then Austin Croshere being number 16. If Croshere is to make the roster, we still need to waive one player.

I wonder if it was Carlisle's doing to get him back?

I could see this coming back to bite us. Dallas seems to turn players that are no names into somebodies.

He is still a great shooter and above average defender. I think he fits in with our offense. To be honest, I can't think of a better mentor for Rush. Jones was a great shooter and excelled at defense, he had the same strengths as Rush and could bring Rush along.

Like who exactly?

I don't see whats not to like about this trade. Sure Shawne Williams has "potential", but that really about it. Hes a 'tweener forward who really hasn't excelled at anything. Its pretty much average or worse.

Maybe Rick Carlisle saw something in Williams during his rookie year, but this pretty much the best offer this team would've got for him.

So if the cash is to buyout Jones, and the 2 2nd round picks are to entice Denver to do the deal for Atkins and Hunter, we're essentially trading Jamaal Tinsley (top 15 PG talent when healthy) and Shawne Williams (loads of potential) for Chucky Atkins (washed up PG who won't even play for us) and Steven Hunter (marginal big man who can block shots). As far as incoming and outgoing talent, we're getting hosed.

I disagree, assuming we use the picks to move JT we save about 16 million and get rid of two headaches that had little to no value. This is pretty much best case scenario in my books.

I came on here and said he was a horrible pick as soon as we selected him and got ripped to shreds.

Apology accepted.

He wasnt a horrible selection. He will be the latest in a long line of players to better themseleves after elaving.

JO will blossom in Toronto
Williams will get time in Dallas
Tinsley will get better wherever he goes.
What we couldnt get another white player in return?

Im too close to actually giving up

Pathetic
Yes all Pacers will be nice boys , with average to below average talent, Yeah get a bunch of good guys who are marginal at best, we will stink and everybody will come running back to the Conseco

This sucks

There were alot of teams that got nothing after Shawne was drafted.
