I'm interested to see if anyone thinks a deal would be wise right now, and if so, what do we look for?

What we need is a big man who can defend. That list that was made a week or so ago listing possible big men to acquire was right on the money.
Our most valuable assets in my opinion are Rasho and Marquis, and I'd be willing to trade either or package both to fill our glaring weakness at the backup PF.
We must make a trade, in my opinion, if we intend on making the playoffs.

^^Maybe that's exactly why the Pacers aren't making a trade...

Chad Ford said something about the Pacers being interested in Tyson Chandler.

Chandler certainly fits the bill as an athletic big guy. He's also only 26 years old. Does taking on that money make sense? I'd only be excited about it if we were also sending out one of our 2011 expirings as well. I'm not sure if it makes sense for NO in that case. Murphy would be great for them with West posting up and Murphy able to hit 3s on Paul's kickouts.

Murphy for Chandler works straight up in the trade checker. So does throwing in Maceo from our side. I really have no idea what NO is after, saving money, winning now? There are lots of deals that line up between us if there really was interest.

They are after saving money. They are threatened with the luxury tax next season, so they are looking to cut costs. I read where they would rather trade Peja, but no one wants him (man I am upset we didnt resign him!). If we made an offer, I'd think it would be something like: Rasho+Baston for Chandler. Maybe a second round pick or two thrown in from our side as well. I'm not sure NO would do that, but if they are serious about saving money, that would do the trick.

I can't imagine they'd take that package though. I know it's expirings and that Rasho is somewhat useful to a playoff team as a third big, but I think Chandler is worth more than that. I posted on the NO board to see what they thought of Murphy straight-up for Chandler. Murphy makes about 800 grand less per year so that may nudge them under the cap (I have no idea). I think both guys are overpaid, but good players and they just have completely different games so I wonder what NO fans think of it.
I can't see us trading our expirings for a guy that runs to 2011 either. I think we'd have to send out either Dunleavy or Murphy in a Chandler deal if there was going to be one.

Possibly. Even though we would most likely get swept in the first round, you always have to go for the playoffs. It would give every player on that team some good experience. There are certain situations where tanking would be smart, but in this case, I don't think it's a good idea.

NO would want Hibbert in any Chandler deal, thats a deal breaker for me.

Holy ****. We might actually get a real life human being for Jamaal Tinsley? One who fits our system pretty well?

Losing Foster to get rid of Tinsley has me puking in my mouth a little.

I like Tyson Chandler, but if the Hornets can get someone like Marion, who can be an expiring and highly contribute, they're better off taking that deal because they're not far off from being a contender.

That's what I think. I'm not sure how great Tyson Chandler is anyway. He was kind of on the road to being a bust before being paired up with every big man's dream (Chris Paul) in New Orleans. And I just cant imagine them basically throwing in the towel on the season to save some money next year. Any deal we could give them for Chandler would be just that.

He's a long, athletic guy who plays defense. What more can i say, i like the guy. I think he's a fair bit more talented than in his earlier NBA days. Let's not forget he was an incredibly raw/young guy when he entered the league. I don't know, i think he could be a great fit here.

I like Chandler, but his endurance is somewhat like questionable. He gets injured quite frequently, but as you guys said, he's just 26, and there surely is a bright future for this guy. He benefits mostly from the feeds of the PG's and i think Ford can really make him look better.
On the other hand, i think the Hornets would go for a big guy in case they'll send Chandler out of NO. They're pretty thin up front, i mean at the center position. I'm really not sure if they're interested with Murphy. They already have West at the PF, and he can't play C.
If i were the Hornets, i'd ask for Dunleavy and probably Hibbert for Chandler and another guy and with draft picks. Most of the Hornets' swingmen play the 3.
If I were Larry, i obviously wouldn't give up Hibbert.

The Hornets have Peja Stojakavic, the older version of Dunleavy. Tyson Chandler is pretty valuable to the Hornets with his rebounding and speed that locks in well with Chris Paul's fastbreak game. We'd have to trade similar athleticism back, otherwise it'll be like that very mediocre Shaq-Marion trade the Suns did.

We have to sweeten the pot to get rid of Tinsley, thats just how it is. Better Foster than Rush or Hibbert.

I'm curious what New Orleans would think of Murphy. He makes $800,000 per year less than Chandler, he's nowhere near the defender, but his ability to hit threes may open things up for Paul's drives or West inside. I could see where that may be enticing especially if they're just barely bumping up against the cap and the difference in the deals pulls them under it. I posed this question on the NO board yesterday. That place is dead even compared to here. My post is still sitting at the top with no responses.
