We're holding on to them and letting them expire for financial relief.

Their contracts expire after this season, not 2010, but I'm as stumped as you are. We could potentially get something fairly decent if we dealt them.

There's still one day left. A few deals have gone through this week, but nothing I would consider huge. There are still plenty of targets out there and teams do seem willing to give up talent to cut salary. Of course, this assumes we're willing to take on salary ourselves.

If teams are willing to sacrifice first or multiple second round picks and decent players, Indiana would be a fool to not pull the trigger.

As Chad Ford said, the Pacers have 10 million in wiggle room as we speak to take on contracts into 2009-2010 season. You can either use that to sign some MLE guys or you can parlay that space into a good deal.

Most teams are factoring in the economy this season when making moves. We need to target teams with more room than we do.

keep em if we plan to spend the money in the off season, trade them if we don't. If our team is a team that thinks saving money is better fiscally than winning they're insane. Sell out that beautiful Arena by putting a winner out there.

We dont have cap room to spend money in the offseason. Especially with Granger's extension kicking in and the liklihood that the salary cap will actually drop by a few million. I'd at least like to hear that we are talking with teams about deals. Besides the occasional Tinsley cocktease, we really havent heard anything about trades.

I personally want us to give Daniels an extension. The guy doesn't miss around the rim and he hustles. Perfect fit for Obie's system. Rasho can go but Daniels is a solid role-player. I don't think we should trade him just because we can.

You could say the same about Rasho. He was very strong in Charlotte. Of course, from a depth perspective, Daniels is more useful, and I agree with you. Rasho has his uses, though.

Really? I kind of think Daniels is a poor fit for O'Brien's system. He can slash and score around the hoop, but so much of Obie' offense revolves around the three point shot, and Daniels has proven to be quite anemic at that particular shot. I dont really see where giving him an extension gets us very far. We have a logjam at the wing and you can expect Rush to get more minutes next year and Dunleavy to be healthy. There is really no room for the guy.

Personally, I like Rasho better. He gives you decent depth at a tough position, and he is a pretty good passer. He steps out and hits that mid-range jumper pretty well. That being said, he isnt worth anywhere near $9 million per year.

I'm not a fan of either being extended. Unless it's Daniels, and at a great price. I'm also not a fan of quiet deadlines when your team is struggling.

I think Rasho is coming back to Toronto in the offseason.

The fact that Daniels has the ability to get to the rim and score is what makes him fit in Obies system. If all our guys are having an off night shooting, we need someone we know HAS to drive to the rim b/c he CAN'T shoot the outside shot. That being said, I am not sure why we would sign guys that fit Obie's system, unless we plan on Obie being our long term answer at coach!!! Personally no matter who our coach is, I would welcome Daniels back if the price is right.

On a side note, I don't see how you can say we will for sure have a logjam at the wing spots next year. That would require the bold assumption that Rush actually gains some confidence in himself and Obie will actually play him. That also requires you to believe DunDun will actually come back healthy, to me it seems very similar to the Bender situation. I realize the injuries themselves are different, but I am fearful the result will be the same. I thought I even remember DunDun in a local interview saying his injury might allow him to return for several games and then be shelved again b/c of the pain. To me that doesn't sound too promising for his career, especially if he only manages 20 games for this entire season. I would love us to have the flexability of a logjam at any positiion, but with all our current injuries, I think that is quite a leap of an assumption to make!

Dunleavy is not like the Bender situation because his injury will heal with rest, not continue degenerating.

Just because his condition wont get worse like Bender's, that doesn't mean it will get any better. Obviously we don't really know the extent of his diagnosis, but I was going off what he said in the interview and the previous diagnosis of a bone spur in the knee. I am by no means a medical professional, but to the best of my knowledge bone spurs don't magically go away. The symptoms may disappear with rest, but for a professional athlete who is constantly putting pressure on that spur the symptoms are likely to return. This seems to be the exact cycle of events this year: rest 3 months, play a month, shut it down for rest again.

Please DON'T think I am saying I KNOW exactly what DunDun's situation is or will be. I was merely trying to make an educated guess with what little information we currently have and apply it to the point that there are no guarantees he will be back and fully healthy for the full season next year!

You mean our trainers can't magically get rid of Dunny's bone spurs? ;)

To be perfectly honest, I think saying we have any sort of logjam at any position on our roster is completely ridiculous. When you have 3 or 4 players at one position, that's not necessarily a logjam. When you have 3 or 4 players of equal talent level, who can actually produce on a consistent basis and stay healthy, THAT would be considered a logjam in my book.

What we have is about 3 players at each position, none of which have proven to be very consistent (performance or health-wise), aside from Danny Granger and Troy Murphy. The rest of our squad has either not been able to produce consistently, or stay healthy for substantial periods of consecutive games. Some of our players haven't been able to do either.

I thought we might deal Daniels but now with the injuries at SF to Danny and JR I guess we needed to keep him. What if he plays really well do we exercise that option and keep him for next yr? i doubt it but that would make him expiring in 2010 and if he plays as well as he has so far there might be a way to grab a draft pick or 2 from some team that wants to clear some space in 2010. :D 8-)
