Pacers' Granger sprains right foot, to have MRI

Posted Feb 18 2009 10:56PM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Indiana scoring leader Danny Granger sprained his right foot early in the second quarter of the Pacers' game against Charlotte on Wednesday night.

Granger, averaging 25.3 points, pulled up after a Charlotte turnover and came out of the game during a timeout with 10:50 left in the quarter.

Granger had 12 points before the injury.

The Pacers said he would not return to the game. He's scheduled to have an MRI on Thursday, leaving him in doubt for Indiana's game at Minnesota on Friday night.

"Yeah, it's so painful," Granger said. "It's really painful. We don't exactly know what it is yet.

"That last shot I took right before I left the game, it felt like something popped in my foot. I thought I had just pulled it. I ran down to the other end, and that's when I just walked to the bench and said, 'I've got something wrong.'"

Granger is the fourth Indiana player currently out of action due to injury or illness. Forward Mike Dunleavy is out with a sore right knee, center Jeff Foster has a sprained right ankle, and forward Josh McRoberts has the flu.

"We have to see where Danny is," Pacers coach Jim O'Brien said. "We're already down one 19-point scorer from last year [Dunleavy]. Certainly it would not be a good situation to have Danny go down for any extended period of time."

Man, I'm praying and praying everything comes back OK. This would be such a blow. If he's out for a long period of time it's gonna be so hard to even watch this team. Please, please, no structural damage.

This is just freaking great. We have a good shot to make a playoff run, then we get a major injury to Mike and perhaps a major to Danny. I had thought there were some decent improvements in recent times, and as well all know we can seem to beat every great team in the league.

Anyone get the feeling we're getting the 14th pick in the draft? Ugh.

Last I checked we were around 9, so if this is anything serious I doubt we'll move up to 14.

I just hope Granger is okay, I'm thankful it wasn't his knee as that would indicate a huge problem. Hopefully this is nothing serious...if it is I think we can trust Granger to work hard on getting back to form...which is something we couldn't say about players in the past.

I was in a mental cycle of somehow believing we'd luck out, win a few, get the 11 spot for the lottery, then all three teams behind us move up.

Agreed about Danny, i'm sure he'll be fine. I just hope we give him enough time to fully recover.

A "POP"? At least it's not as bad as a "BAKOOM" or a "WHAPOW" or a "KEE-RACCCKKKK"

Basically, I hope he rests until he's done.

Earmuffs

"F***, S***, B****."

"C***. Balls."

Haha I think the last one won't be ***ed out.

Good thing I previewed this before. The B word doesn't get *ed and neither does the C word... If you haven't seen Old School then you don't know why I am saying that, but seriously lets hope it's not bad.

If it's anything serious, they need to just shut him down. Having your franchise guy play through a serious injury just for the 8th seed is just stupid.

Granger's a competitor. Whether we like it or not, he'll go out there if he feels like he can play.

Hope it's nothing serious. But if it is, he's gotta rest rather than play through it.

I think that at this point, regardless if it is not serious or not, you have got to rest Danny... Not sure what foot it is, but could this stem from his compensation for an injured knee already?? Danny is to important to risk any kind of serious, or long term damage... I say let him rest until he is 100 percent healed, in both his knee AND foot...

It was the same foot as the knee, so I don't think it was a compensation thing, it just happened.

Just b/c it is on the same foot does not mean that the knee is "innocent" in this... Irregardless, Danny needs to be resting, and letting his legs heal...

So much for a playoff push.

The Indiana Pacers announced Thursday that forward Danny Granger will be out 10 days to three weeks with a partial tendon tear in the sole of his right foot.

I think a tendon tear in your foot will take longer than this to heal. I've had planar fasciitis keeping me off the court for about 5 months now. That's not even a tear.

Looking at three weeks from now, that makes it March 12th, with 9 games left in the season. I want him to take the rest of the year off and not risk anything for no reason. Just let him rest, please.
