He is an RFA this summer, just wondering how high of an offer (assuming he gets one) would you match.

Jarrett Jack has been a pleasant surprise for me personally, although his defense comes and goes and he is not a true PG or SG, he has played well and maybe more importantly stayed healthy all season.

Jarrett Jack is averaging 12.1 PPG 3.3RPG and 3.9APG.

Keeping in mind we have 8 million invested in the often injured TJ Ford next year and Travis Diener at a 1.8 million player option next year how high would you go to keep Jarret Jack?

3-4 mil was my initial thought. I need to think it through, but that's my gut call.

I would give him the same contract we have now..he's worth Roger Mason Jr. money, and nothing higher. He's not worth a full MLE. We can replace him easy with a lower less proven fa or give diener more time

With all do respect to Eric Snow I think Jarret Jacks scoring is far superior, he is probably somewhere in between a Chauncy Billups and Eric Snow. He is a solid role player but im not sure if he is a starter and seeing how we will likely have both TJ and Diener under contract I wouldn't feel comfortable giving him more then about 4 million next year.

Hopefully no one puts in an offer and we can keep him at the price he is at, someone should pull a Kevin Pritchard and email threats to the league telling them they will be sued if they put in an offer

Thats tough for me. Deiner's play has impressed me. I think with Felton being a free agent this summer, it kinda puts jack in a bad position to bargain. 4 to 5 million would be about my cap.

With Diener playing well, it makes him less valuable. I would like to resign Jack, but I don't want to handicap ourselves in the process.

im not talking in terms of abilities, im talking about his growth as a player. he's the type of player who wont put up great stats but who will contribute to a very good team built around teamplay instead of individual talent in the future. he's a heady smart guy who knows his limitations and in that lies his greatest force. he'll get smarter as he matures and i quite a few teams will try to add him to their line up. he'll be a good starter, although it might take him a few years to reach his max potential.

NBA.com has them listed as the same height, 6-3 while... Through 4 season JJ is averaging .3 assists more per game... Billups also shot 33.1 percent from 3pt land his first four seasons to JJ's 34.3 percent... Also JJ has averaged more rebounds, all in slightly less minutes per game... And JJ has only missed 6 games to date in his career, while Billups played roughtly a third of the games in his first 4 seasons...

I was thinking about this the other night, during my 90 minute drive home the other night... And the comparison of Billups came to mind... I vaguely remember Billups in his rookie years, but I think that JJ has the potential to be a Billups type player... I dont see the comparison as being that far off...

What would I be willing to pay JJ?? I am a fan of his, and have been since he was in Portland, and some of you may remember that I proposed a deal where Granger would go to Portland in exchange for JJ amongst others... That being said, I would probably go as high as 7M, but I dont think it will take that much... I think that there will not be many big contracts given out this year, and players like JJ will be on the short end of that stick... I think that 4-5 is going to be enough to retain JJ...

There's a few comparisons to Billups in here. He and Jack are just about the same size and both of them seem to be scorers more than pure point guards, but both seem like effective team leaders so I think it's a decent comparison. Chauncey didn't start his career as a guy that anyone really wanted. He bounced from Boston to Denver to Minny before finding a place to thrive in Detroit. Here are Billups' numbers in his first 4 seasons. These are his averages and in parentheses I put the best season number he put up in each category in those 4 years. These are compared to Jack's averages through his first four seasons.

FG%: 37.6% (39%) vs 44.3%
3FG%: 33.1% (36.2%) vs 34.3%
FT%: 87.1% (91.9%) vs 84.9%
FTA: 3.5 (3.8) vs 2.9
PPG: 11.8 (13.9) vs 10.1
APG: 3.8 (4.3) vs 3.9
TO: 2.1 (1.9) vs 2.0
RPG: 2.3 (2.7) vs 2.7
SPG: 1.3 (1.5) vs 0.8
MPG: 29.1 (33) vs 28

Jack has missed 6 games so far in his career. Billups only played 35 games a year his first 4 seasons, although I don't remember if that was due to injuries or ineffectiveness. Jack's numbers hold up pretty well to Chauncey's at the start of their career. Even Billups best numbers are on par with what Jack has averaged so far. Obviously, the Billups that plays now has taken a big improvement from his start in the league, but Jack's been more reliable early in his career. I wouldn't break the bank for him, but I can see him becoming an effective starter on a winning team.

I stand corrected. If he is going to be like Chauncey, I'm going to raise my price up to 4-5 mil, at this point. I also wouldn't honestly mind if he started and Diener was our backup.

I didn't say he'd definitely turn into Chauncey Billups, I would say that I wouldn't rule that out as what he could turn into. However, I think 4 mil a year for a 3 year deal or something would be reasonable.

I say we do what we have to to keep Double J, trade Ford for a quality 4 and run a tandem of Jack & Diener at the point. Problem solved.

I'll change my name to ILoveHairyApeMen if Jack becomes half as good as Billups. Just because they are the same height and both bald doesn't mean they are comparable players.

I feel like a team will offer almost the full MLE and if that happens I hope we don't match. I agree with 4/$16, but I'd prefer 3/$12. He can do better than that, though, I would think (a 3 year deal).

What All-Star caliber PG's has Billups ever been stuck behind in a rotation? Let's see, in Boston it was an aging Kenny Anderson. In Denver it was an aging Nick Van Exel. In Toronto it was Damon Stoudamire. In Minnesota it was Terrell Brandon (1 year away from retirement). Of the 297 games he played before latching on with Detroit, he started 211 (71% of his games played). So he wasn't really playing BEHIND any of those guys. And he still was no better than Jarrett Jack at the same point in each of their careers.

Billups' first 5 seasons - 3369 points (11.3 per), 1,237 assists (4.1 per), 704 rebounds (2.4 per), 292 steals (.9 per)
Jack's first 4 seasons (still 20 games left in season 4) - 3034 points (10 per), 1,189 assists (3.9 per), 804 rebounds (2.7 per), 249 steals (.8 per)

I'd say Jarrett Jack is on pace to be as good if not better than Chauncey Billups if he holds to form.

And I'm not saying that Jack WILL be as good as Billups became. I'm just saying we have no reason to believe that he won't, because no one thought Billups would be as good as he became either. Jarrett plays harder than pretty much anyone on our team and people around here still find ways to bad mouth him constantly, yet praise a MUCH less talented Foster for the same sort of hustle.
