New PACEsetter setup

Post#1 » by Sparhawk » Mon Mar 23, 2009 9:47 pm

Hey gang,

I was poking around on some other team forums and some teams have it set up where you can click and vote for the player of the game.

I'm not even sure how I would do this, but I could figure it out if I spent some time playing around.

It seems to me that we don't do a great job of our player of the game posts. Everyone writes who they vote for, but I sometimes go back can't tell who we thought the player of the game was. Sometimes it's pretty obvious, but not always. I like that people express why they thought someone was the player of the game and not go by stats alone. (Difficult for me since I rarely get to see a game in Atlanta).

Does anyone know how to set up voting enabled posts? I like the format we have by listing the players that are thought to be in the lead for player of the game along with their stats, but I'd like us to take it a step further and add in voting.

What do you all think about that? It'd be nice to have a post just on how to create a PACEsetter post with voting enabled. I'm pretty sure at least the MODS know how to add voting to a post.

Oh, and here is a quick post on how the Thunder vote for the player of the game. viewtopic.php?f=334&t=892137&start=0

sorry if it's a bit jumbled, I'm at work and I'm going back and forth between my work.

When you create a new topic, at the bottom of the page there's a tab labeled "poll creation" and it's there that you enter the question and the choices.

I personally don't think a poll is necessary, as all 12 players and sometimes even the coach get a fair shake. Maybe Diener plays only tallies 6 points for the whole game, but knocks down 2 key jumpers that spark a run. There have been games before when 6 guys have received votes. Also, people like to split their votes in half, and a polling system could allow two choices, but 2 is not the same as .5's

I also agree that there should be a link to the box score at the very least (the NBA one shows plus-minus). Also in the future, I personally want to do postgame blurbs for the pacesetters, where you not only list stats but accomplishments (right now the farthest we've gone is "game-winner," but there may be other key plays, like a Murphy trey, or a Granger block, or something. Those should be considered).

Piano players are usually pretty good at counting, so we should be good with M4E tallying it up....wait PP does that doesn't he? You may be onto something.

M4E: Board AND kid-friendly now.

Yeah, that's right; PP keeps track of the pacesetters and I go to music college, so we're all in our right places. Stereotypeland just wasn't for me.

I split this topic, because most of the posts were not pertaining to the topic. Here's the Pacesetter stup thread in case anybody wants to voice their opinion about that.

I said this in the other thread, but I'll re-state. I have never really been in favor of a poll, because it will just breed arguments if the creator leaves a playoff off for whatever reason. Our system works fine, and I don't see any reason to change it.

Eh, that's fine. I am just trying to bring some ideas to the table. No one seems to like it, not a big deal.

 And I didn't mean for it to sound like I can't count. Though, I'm sure if I was Asian I'd have probably had better grades in math. I just thought the change would be nice, & graphs are nice.

I am a Pacers fan and hopefully with time I'll become a valued member of this forum community.
