Mike Dunleavy = '09-10 Sixth Man???

Should Rush and Granger start next season what do you make of Dunleavy? Sixth man/ role player or do you attempt to trade him? Very few teams would be interested in him because of his contract, but with his ball-handling and abilities in an open system he would be a complement to the pluthera of scoring PG's in the league.

Thoughts???

If Jack comes back and TJ and Dunleavy came off the bench we would have one hell of a bench. Plus add our draft pick to that (Griffin, of course) and it'd be the best bench in the league.

Who's Griffin?

Edit: Nevermind, fat chance of it happening though. Rarely do those odds happen back to back.

yes it would be a very good bench but the problem would be that it would be a very expensive bench as well so the odds of that happening are pretty thin.
Don't get me wrong I'd love to have Jack back and a healthy Mikey D but having a threesome at the shooting guard (Jack, Rush and Mikey) is unlikely next season (not to mention Quisy who also looks like he may be on his way out).

Ideally I would like to keep Jack, Rush and Quisy and trade Mikey.

Since Dunleavy won't be back until the second half, at the earliest, and possibly (probably, IMO) not at all next year, I think this conversation is very premature.

IF he comes back healthy, he'd be an excellent 6th man IMO.

I was listening to the Kravitz and Eddie show 2 weeks ago, I believe (Kravitz wasn't there). Some guy called in and asked when Dunleavy would be back THIS YEAR. The 2 said they don't think he'd be back this year, but he might be. They were saying at worst the beginning of next year. Nothing new has happened since then. I guess these guys just don't know what's going on...?

And my Griffin thing wasn't completely serious. Yes, it would be an expensive bench. I think I am okay with Marquis leaving now. I like him, but I like Rush more. I would still trade Dunleavy, because I have REALLY been liking Rush lately. And if we re-sign Jack it wouldn't be for a huge amount. Really, it'd probably be an amount that is pretty high for a bench player, while he'd be starting, and TJ would be making more, but coming off the bench. So I will cancel each other off, and then we just have the expensive Dunleavy coming off the bench. I'd take an expensive Dunleavy off the bench over an expensive Dunleavy that is hurt.

Did anyone else hear that? I know it was 2 Fridays ago. The caller sounded kinda dumb, but I am pretty sure I heard correctly. I know they are wrong, but how do these guys get these jobs? Maybe I did hear it wrong, but I am 99% sure I didn't. I want a sports radio show!

The problem is, we really can't trade Dunleavy. No team would touch him with that potentially career-threatening knee injury. I've been in the boat all year of letting Marquis go, and nothing has altered my way of thinking there.

Besides adding our lotto pick and a few minimum salaried guys, I don't see us making any major moves. Give this group another chance to win next season with RushRoy in year two. Of course that means bringing Jack back.

Yeah, we can only get better from here, really. 1 more year of experience with this team together and another year for Rush, Roy, Granger, etc. We have Foster who is getting up there a little bit, but we don't have to worry about ago. Plus if Dunleavy comes back and is healthy, that'd be a huge addition. Maybe we can get lucky and land a top-3 pick.

From Bruno's latest blog entry:

"There really isn't (a timeline) at this point," he said. "It's just too hard to say. It's a long-range recovery so to pinpoint when I'll be back jogging, running, playing, all that stuff, it depends on the prior steps. Believe me, I want to know as bad as anybody else but they can't give me that. So I just have to take it week-by-week and month-by-month.

This cleared up a lot of questions I had regarding the injury, the recovery process and basically what to expect. I'm glad he finally decided to get it removed, so hopefully when he gets back there's nothing there that can linger and cause further problems. Like most fans, I wish he had taken care of it earlier but I understand now why they decided against surgery since the doctors were worried it might end his career.

This is just tough. Imagine finally having a break-out year after disappointing seasons then having to go through surgery that could have possibly ended your career.

Here's hoping Dun continues to have a successful recovery and we see him back on the court next year better than ever.
