No All-NBA for Granger

They just announced the All-NBA teams. There's a link on realgm's front page.
LeBron James was a unanimous selection to the 2008-09 All-NBA First Team, the NBA announced today.
Joining James on the First Team are Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat.
The All-NBA Second Team consists of New Orleans’ Chris Paul and Portland’s Brandon Roy at guard, San Antonio’s Tim Duncan and Boston’s Paul Pierce at forward, and Houston’s Yao Ming at center.
The All-NBA Third Team includes Denver’s Chauncey Billups and San Antonio’s Tony Parker at guard, Denver’s Carmelo Anthony and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Paul Gasol at forward, and Phoenix’s Shaquille O’Neal at center.
I was hoping there was an outside shot at Granger making the 3rd team, but no such luck. I see that Carmelo made the 3rd team though, and I actually think Granger had a more impressive season than Melo did (I live out here in Nugget land so I get to watch them a lot). I think that team success factored into this a lot more than individual play. I don't really have a complaint with that, but take a look at how Granger stacked up to Melo (3rd team) and Pierce (2nd team).
LINK. I'm going to try posting the table here and see how it looks, but I'm betting I'll have to delete it for clarity. Anyway, I wouldn't trade Granger for Pierce (mainly due to the age difference, but even in a swap for just next season). I also wouldn't swap him for Carmelo.

Granger is the second best SF in the NBA. I can understand Pierce over him(for now), but having Melo over him is insulting. Its ridiculous they go off wins, they may as well put Wally Z above Granger because his team had best record in NBA.

Carmelo's a big name. I think its funny how he made All-NBA 3rd team, yet wasn't voted in by the coaches to be an All-Star. Hmmm....

Granger beat them statistically, but I think that performance-wise, he also should've gotten nods for his fire. There was something on NBATV where he was one of the top-ten warriors in the NBA. He lost his teeth for a loose ball. He sank game-winners. He fought hard when there was nothing to fight for.
This is a gyp.

this always happened to reggie too. nothing new, just a circle jerk of advertisers. it really wouldn't be a good idea to compliment a sober non-cursing stud.

Omg. I am watching 1st and 10 on ESPN2. That idiot dude that is always on, I forget his name (waiting for ESPN2 to repeat it....), is talking about Carmelo with Woody Paige. Ok, Skip Bayless, yeap, he is a moron. He says he "half-expected to see Carmelo on first-team instead of Dirk". Later he goes on to say he would pick Carmelo for the final shot over Lebron. OK, that's fine if you don't want Lebron taking the final shot, but Carmelo? What, why???? Whenever I watch this show (rarely) Bayless says idiotic things. I think he does it to stay on tv. Some people think he is so dumb that they watch and e-mail in or something.

If I could make someone dead with my mind, it would be Skip Bayless. Not really dead, but I hate him and don't agree with anything that comes out of his mouth.

Carmelo has hit some buzzer beaters, as you showed. But c'mon, RIGHT NOW, Carmelo over Lebron?Carmelo did have the huge/controversial shot against Dallas, and Lebron hasn't had any buzzer beaters this postseason, but they have won every game by double-digits. Lebron of a few years ago I would agree with.
But c'mon Carmelo with the ball for the last shot over Lebron? I think over 90% of people would take Lebron. Maybe I shouldn't have worded it how I did, but were you wathing? Bayless sounded like an idiot! He is all over Carmelo b/c he hits 1 shot and his team (by his I mean Chauncey's) makes it to the WCF.

I guess its a situational thing.
I would rather have the ball in Lebrons hand depending on how much time is on the clock. If theres about 24 -10 seconds left I would take Lebron mainly because of his ability to drive and create not only for himself but for others aswell which he often does because hes surrounded by shooters. I think it's always better to take the best shot available.
If it comes down to a last second jump shot, maybe about 1-4 seconds left, I would take Carmelo anyday.

OK. I don't remember if he said "the ball in his hands" or "taking the final shot", I guess there is a difference, especially if it is a 3 or not. Either way, I am taking Lebron. What do you think about Carmelo being 1st Team All-NBA, or even 3rd-team?

All-NBA 1st team? Not a chance this year. All-NBA 3rd team I think is more reasonable. Melo, Granger, and even Durant who got moved to SF after the all star break are all deserving candidates. Melo put up really good stats on a team that was 2nd in the West with a 54-28 record, so its hard to argue against that. I wouldn't be overly upset Granger didn't get it this year because he's only getting better and his time will come.

I don't think Dirk was a great choice for 1st team. But looking at the stats, I don't know who else they can pick. I feel like a few years ago PFs were very deep. Out West was like Garnett, Dirk, Duncan, Amare, Brand, and then probably some guys I forgot about. Duncan didn't even average 20 PPG and all those other guys were hurt.

Duncan over Nowitzki.

The team is going to have to achieve better success if Granger wants to win one of these. Fair or unfair.

I mean I guess you could say Duncan just because of defense. Dirk did average 6 points more per game, though. And it's tough because Duncan didn't even average 20 points per game. I could average 20 PPG if I was playing in a 5th grade girls basketball league, I mean c'mon Timmy!

Not always, gremz. Dirk has more hair. It is also better hair. He is also from Germany. AKA he is the new Hasselhoff. Don't Hassel the Hoff!
