All-Time Pacers draft signup

Post#1 » by Miller4ever » Mon May 25, 2009 1:19 am

With all the draft talk going on, I felt like this would be a cool game to play that will give everybody a better understanding of Pacers history. I completely jacked this from the Player Comparison board, so credit goes to those guys. Don't worry. Tradition games will be coming soon...

The Rules

Every team will draft a 12-man roster of any player who has ever played in a Pacers uniform. At the end of the draft, every GM will do a write-up of team philosophies, player roles, and rotational minutes, towards the goal of proving that their team is the best.

For every Pacer drafted, GMs must select a season for that player. For players who have played with another team besides the Pacers, you must pick a full season (50+ games) that they played with the Pacers. For example, Alex English was a 16-8 guy for the Pacers but that pales in comparison to the 30-point season he had as a Nugget. However, he only has one complete season with Indiana, and that's the season a GM must pick if they are to choose Alex English. Other players like Jermaine O'Neal have great peak years with the Pacers, and so drafting those players isn't a bad idea, plus everyone is assumed to be healthy.

Draft order will be ABBAABBAABBA, so if there were 4 teams, the order would be 1234432143211234 and that would repeat.

A list of all-time Pacers is conveniently located here.

An example starting lineup would be:

Vern Fleming 1989-1990
Reggie Miller 1989-1990
Ron Artest 2003-2004
George McGinnis 1974-1975
Brad Miller 2001-2002

Domination.

I will randomly generate a draft order using unbendable envelopes. Or numbers in a hat. Or a website that will do these things for me.

I am down. Say some1 picks Reggie in 1994-95, and I take Reggie in 95-96, or once Reggie is picked and a certain year is chosen he is finished? You may have said that, I kinda skimmed over some of the info.

Please generate the draft order like they do with the NBA draft and get ping-pong balls and make up 1000 different scenarios and all that. Thank you.

Ooh, and is it NBA and ABA Pacers?

Edit: Nevermind, I say you have McGinnis from 74-75. ABA rules!

Once a player is picked, they can't be picked again. Then we'd all have George McGinnis and Reggie Miller.

Haha, yeah, I was going to say we'd all have the same teams, just different years.

I like the way you are doing it, I am just saying this for fun. But it'd be cool if we did something (I don't think we should, I like your idea) where we could pick a player and they only had to have played on the Pacers, but we could pick the best year of their career even if it wasn't on the Pacers. Like we had Chris Mullin, but we could pick one of his years he was on GSW. Or Tim Hardaway, etc. I don't think we should do this, just weird that we had Mullin and Hardaway and Sam Perkins. I kinda forgot about all the players we have had.

Sounds like a great time. Although, wish this game was a few weeks after the draft. From now til the draft is pretty jam packed. Either way, i'm in.

Sorry guys, this is normally exactly my thing, but I'm already too involved in too many things over on the PC and T & T Games boards, plus work is picking up.

Other thing is the time zone, I will probably only get one pick a day in and drag this thing out way too long.

Booo gremz. I am sure cdash and dgrange would play. I thought I saw dgrange make a post today(possibly over on the trade board) so I am surprised he isn't signed up. cdash I think was at the race and probably isn't back in b-town yet.

If this draft lasts all summer, I wouldn't care. Plus, Gremz, I'm in GM a Team and ATL Decades too. I'm cool with postponing this. In fact, I think we should do that. Anybody else?

That could work well with me, work should have died down in a couple of weeks, and should be able to arrange a little more time off.
