Is Foster our best trade chip?

So I have noticed that Jeff Foster seems to be the hottest name that other teams' fans bring up in trade discussions. Plus, he has been rumored in trades at the deadline for the past two years. Is he our best bet to dangle in a trade to upgrade our team? Realistically, I think the only assets we have that we would be willing to trade are Foster, Ford, and maybe Murphy. When you think about it, it makes sense. Almost every contender needs a guy like Foster in their rotation. I could see Cleveland wanting him if Varejao bolts (which he probably will). Denver has been hot for him. If Orlando loses Gortat, he could be a nice fit there, and so on.

What kind of deal would you guys expect to get in the event that we did deal Foster?

I'd want either a first round pick in the 20-10 range or a nice young prospect, along with a short/expiring player contract. Someone like Cleveland's JJ Hickson would interest me as a young prospect.

Would you do a Foster/2nd rounder for Hickson/30th pick type of deal?

supposedly if Cavs trade Hickson, Lebron is bolting so my guess is thats a no for Cle

Lol, right. Where did you get that tidbit from? I find it hard to believe that a player who didn't even get off the bench in the playoffs would cause LeBron to bolt town.

The Cavs are very high on Hickson, no way they'd do that.

I agree with PR07's post though. A mid 1st round pick or a nice young player. I love Foster, I'm just having a difficult time seeing where he fits in next year.

This is the only thing I'll say about Jeff Foster.

Before he signed the two year extension last year, there was talk about where he'd go and how many teams wanted him, esp. out West.

There's a reason for this!!!!

Jeff Foster has spoken publically, to friends and media, that the only other team he's consider playing for is the San Antonio Spurs and if he wanted to be traded, that would be the ONLY team he'd like to play for.

The thought of him joining the Spurs alongside Tim Duncan has every team in the Western Conference scared to death, thus the attempts to pry him away.

Actually, most teams want Jeff Foster because he is the kind of player that every team looks for. I'm pretty sure it has very little to do with the fact the Spurs like him.

During his first few years in a Pacers uniform, Foster spends his offseason near his home in San Antonio. SW Texas State is also a small college in San Antonio. He developed his defensive game going against Tim Duncan.

Oh, I know he wants to play for SA, but I doubt other teams want him for that reason or at least that being the main reason.

Your making a lot of assumptions and trying to pass them off as facts.

Uhh, yeah, sorry, I'm with DGrangeRx on this one. I don't really think the West is shuddering with fear at a potential Duncan/Foster tandem in the frontcourt, and I don't ever recall Foster stating publicly that the only team he would be willing to go to is San Antonio.

Every contender could use a frontcourt player like Jeff Foster. Team's don't want to stop him from going to the Spurs, they want him for themselves.

It's possible, but probably more likely was the fear of having a bidding war during the Free Agency period and losing him to a contender without getting anything in return.

Foster is very good and could be a great asset to any team with a superb offensive interior presence, see JO in his prime. Unfortunately the Pacers are seriously struggling in this department, which renders Jeff useless on offense. I said a year or two ago that out of respect for Jeff, we should trade him to a contender so he doesn't have to go through the rebuilding process. When our team was being compared to the "Jailblazers."

I think that he'll get his chance with a contender. It will be when our own frontcourt issues have been addressed though. Hopefully Roy can keep his fouls to a minimum next season which would make Jeff a little more expendable.
