You are south of Indianapolis so I will give you a few options - a few down there, & a few in Indianapolis area as well:
South:
-Otter Creek (Columbus IN) is considered #9 course in State.
-Hartland Crossing (Greenwood) is a links-style course, NR but suppose to be very nice.
& of course you likely know this but....
-Belterra (Florence) - right where you are staying - is ranked # 14 in state.
North:
-Purgatory (Noblesville) - can be longest course E of Mississippi River if you choose, #10 in state.
-Brickyard Crossing, (Speedway IN/ W Indpls) inside the Indianapolis Speedway, #11 in state.

All courses are in your price range, & all are open to the public. Rankings come from Golf Digest "Best in State" rankings of courses. Personally I have only played Purgatory (4 times). I do plan on trying to play the others t/y if possable. I'm am "crowd control" on hole 18 at t/y's US Senior Open, so I hope a perk is getting to play there @ Crooked Stick (private). I know they do that for volunteers @ Agusta National from what I'm told.
Hope this helps...

PS: let us (me) know where you end up & your thoughts.

Bleh I'm sorry to waste your time. I played a good amount of craps tonight so they comped me for another round at Belltera again tommorow so I'll just end up playing here again. I've played this course every time I'm down, but I've heard good things about Indiana golf, and would really like to try some other courses in the area. Oh well next time down.

I wasn't aware Belterra was #14 in the state. Like I said I played yesterday From 6500yds tees. The course is always in amazing shape, and a very good course to look at. Doesn't have that "back and forth" feeling that a lot of public courses in my area get where you can see/play 1-2 fairways over. You can tell that it is a newer course though as it isn't 100% grown in in some places.

The fairways for the most part are pretty wide overall off your tee shot. There's a lot of hazards <100-150 for your tee shot before the fairway, and if you do hit wide of a fairway, you're ball can get lost pretty quickly. But really not that hard to be good off the tee. Fairway's are pristine. The hardest part of the course is the greens, approach shots, and surrounding area. Tons of bunkers. A good amount of water. And some massive well kept greens that should be a par 3 in and of themselves from some areas (atleast for me, haha).

Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to bookmark this thread when I get home to remember the courses for next time down to Indiana.

Yeah, I haven't played the Brickyard Crossing course, but I've torn it up quite a bit walking back from the Indy 500. It really is an awesome place, if for no reason other than getting to play inside and out of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Btw just wanted to add.

Indiana, and Kentucky people are super friendly. Canadians are known for being friendly, but of all the places I've been in the States, and Canada people aren't near as talkative as Indiana.

We had a box at the Meijer 300 Nationwide race, and got in 2 rounds of golf. Had a great time down there, and can't wait to go back.
