Jeff Teague Staying In The Draft and Wants To Be A Pacer

He's another hometown product, coming from Pike High School. He says he grew up a Pacers fan and wants the Pacers logo that he wore during the workout to be his permanent one. Good to hear from a guy that could potentially be our pick at #13 if things work out that way. I don't think it would be TOO MUCH of a stretch for him to go 13th in the draft.

from ESPN.com's mock draft
"The Pacers' biggest need is an athletic big man with shot-blocking ability, but they aren't likely to find what they're looking for. So with Jarrett Jack heading into free agency, they could end up focusing on the point guard position. If Flynn is still on the board, I think they'll take him. If he's not, I think they'll have a tough choice between Jeff Teague, Eric Maynor and Ty Lawson. Lawson and Maynor are ready to play now, but Teague has the most upside and can play off the ball, too."

That was from the first mock draft, things have changed a bit since then.

I like that Teague wants to play here, but I'm not sure he's the right pick for us.

I watched several games of Teague while he was at Wake Forest because i wanted to see if he had what it took for us to select him.... several times, he was a good scorer, but 0 assists. I mean, how can a PG get 0 assists? He's a pass first PG. No thanks.

That's great, but I don't want him to be a Pacer. At least, not at #13. It makes sense that he wants to go to the Pacers though, he's from Indy, and it's also the highest spot he could potentially get drafted which means more moo-lah for him.

I like Teague's ability to drive, and score, I like his jumper off the dribble. In those situations he's great! He's not great when he just catches and shoots. Also he posted a 1/1 assist turnover ratio and only 1.9 steals per game.

If we oh say traded the 13 pick for both the timber wolves picks in the first and oh say a second rounder, or the bulls for their 2 first rounders. I'd love to have him back in the first round, then if he doesn't work out then we lost less. Good news is we can develope him if we get him, and make deiner sit by him on the bench and chat him up about assists and passing.

I think Teague has the potential to thrive in O'Brien's offense that calls for the point guard to pass early in the shot clock, move and take what the defense gives. With the way our three point shooters can spread the floor and Teague's ability to work in that space he could be a very effective piece. Potentially alot more effective than either Ford or Jack.

His length and quickness could make him an exceptional defender.

All that said his college work product points to issues with turnovers and leadership.

How hard will he work at it. If he's got something close to Danny Granger's work ethic even at 13 he could be a good pick.

From everything I've read about him, his defense is exceptional and is what separates him from the other PG's in this draft. I really wouldn't be totally bummed about getting him at 13 if other options, like Holiday, Blair, Jennings are all gone.

I would love to see Jeff as a Pacer. Mainly because I'm a Pike alum, (and still a little upset we did not take c-lee last yr) and because he can just flat out play basketball. I don't see him being a "true" point guard, but he's a guy that can come of the bench as a 6th man and put some points on the board. The Pacers are really not in the position to be picky about positions, just draft the best player on the board.

I like Teague a lot. If Rubio, Curry, Evans, Holiday, Flynn, Jennings, Maynor, Douglas, Lawson, and Collison are off the board and we have to have another small guard, I would DEFINITELY draft him. Seriously, I would draft him before some of those guys, but I prefer the idea of trading down to get him, and if he's gone, take someone else.
