What to do with Tinsley?
With all of the draft talks, I almost forgot that he was still on the team. If Larry is seriously trying to get rid of him I think it has to be done on draft night.
With that said, we more than likely will have to trade Tinsley for another bad contract. Maybe a trade with the Kings since they are looking to rid themselves of Udrih's contract.

Donte Greene

Outgoing Players
Jamaal Tinsley
#13

If we're going to have a bad contract on the team, I'd much rather have him contribute. As far as losing the #13, I think Greene will be just as good as what we will get at that pick and we still get the #23 (which I wouldn't mind using on Lawal).

Lawai went back to school I believe.

Well I'm sure there will still be someone there of value. I really wouldn't care if we took Daye or Hansborough at that point. As long as Tinsley's gone.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
That's definitely not an option. We have stated time and time again that we will not give up future assets to accommodate Tinsley out of town, which includes dropping down in an already weak draft.
Not only that, but Udrih's contract is one of the last I'd want to go near. The guy is owed 27m in future salary and we're already jammed up until 2011 with contracts so adding future salary for a guy who is worth nowhere near that amount is just bad business. Consider the fact that we already have TJ for owed 17m over the next 2 years, and the likelihood that Jack will return, and he won't actually be contributing at all.
Let's not look to add any excess future salary, unless the player fits in to our long term plans. I'd much rather Tinsley be bought out.
Donte Greene won't make me entertain this idea.

Well you have to admit if Tinsley doesn't get bought out that's money just sitting there. At least Udrih will contribute something for those two years.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
But the he still has $14m+ on the books for the seasons following it, which will cost us space that could be used for championship pieces. Tinsley at the very least will be able to be moved as an expiring contract during the 2010-11 season, why sacrifice a lottery talent and $14m in cap space just to get him out of town a 18 months earlier.
I want him gone as soon as possible, but not like this.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
We'll see in arbitration, maybe the arbitrator will rule for the pacers and outline a fair buyout, like half of what he is owed.
Next season Tinsley's asset status will go way up, expiring contract/healthy point guard. Shelf him, hold the asset, burn it if a good deal comes along.
We're also making a potential impact in the next round of CBA arguing. Maybe when other owners see what we've been going through with tinsley, or teams have a Cardnal, Curry, Udrith we can get a biannual Allan Houston exemption. Would the players union agree to that if they think over payed players could find a better situation to play? or teams would respend that money on another player?
Think about it.

I personally think that a single offense off the court should give a team the right to void your entire contract, assuming a conviction of course. Maybe then players would think a little longer before going out to smoke marijuana at a strip club at 3am. I'm all for second chances, but nobody learns a lesson without suffering consequences.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
What lesson has Tinsley learned? He's made 7 million annually this past season and will make 7 million respectively in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, by sitting on his couch and "working out". Tough life. haha.
As for what to do with him, if we haven't been able to trade him when he was still playing basketball, I doubt we're going to be able to trade him this season. The last season of his deal he should be a valuable commodity. Until then, we'll probably just have to wait it out.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
As to the proposed trade I wouldn't trade Tinsley straight up for Udrich. Green and 23 for 13 might be fair on its own. But I don't like it enough to take back a bad contract lasting twice as long. I think about the best you can hope for is something like Tinsley for Jaric. Jaric's contract is no worse than Tinsley and we at least have a chance to get some production from Jaric.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
That would leave us with Jack/Ford/Udrih/Diener at the back court, so that would bring in more problems and would not be a solution to anything.
But i do hope we could get one of their bigs instead.

The Suns are willing to take Tinsley in a deal which we can either give you Shaq or JRich and get back Troy Murphy. Any interest? Tinsley + Murphy + Foster for Shaq.

Hahahaha. The thing is, you never know what could happen with Tinsley. We may not even have to frame him.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
I'd do Murphy, Foster, and Tinsley for Shaq in an instant. No way that Phoenix does that though, if for no reason other than the fact that that would add salary this year and in the future to them.

Phoenix would be really good if we made that deal. And we would suck (no power forward?). I think we give up way too much, and would Shaq really want to play in Indy?

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
In the near-future (before the trade deadline), Tinsley won't have a negative trade-value because his deal will soon expire. We don't have to make a trade with the notion we get screwed, financially. Teams were apparantly looking at him last year, so I suspect someone needing a point guard, down the stretch, might inquire.

Re: What to do with Tinsley?
I made up Shaq scenarios before the deadline. It was fun. If nothing else he puts butts in seats. He'd only be here for a year. We save a TON of money. I think he still has got some left in him. We would HAVE to pick a PF in the draft. It'd be nice if we could move up and take someone better, or buy a pick and get Hansbrough and hope 1 of the 2 work out. Shaq just giving Hibbert some tips for a year would be great. We could possibly play really small ball when Dunleavy gets back, but I don't like that idea. The idea I do like is to sign Artest! He can play PF. Jack (or Ford or whoever)/Rush/Granger/Artest/Shaq. Wooo! Or trade TJ for a PF or something, or draft pick. Who knows.
