Calling It Now: Pacers Will Be a Major Player Summer 2010

Post#1 » by IndieRuso420 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:01 pm

Look at the expirings we will have. These aren't just expirings but quality players as well. Murphy, Dunleavy, Ford, Foster, and Tinsley (who will be a valuable commodity once he becomes an expiring).

On top of that, we have young players. Rush, Hibbert, Hansbrough, McRoberts, 1st round pick in 2010.....

Not every single big name FA will be outright signed. There will be signed and traded players in the summer of 2010, and the Pacers are setup nicely to make a move for one of those guys like:

Carlos Boozer
Chris Bosh
Joe Johnson
Rajon Rondo

I don't think getting one of these guys is out of question come 2010.

Ummm, Tinsley, Ford, Foster, Dunleavy, and Murphy all expire in the 2011 summer, not 2010.

They will have one year left on their deal going into the summer of 2010

Rondo - Personally, I feel like he's tremendously overrated and after hearing about his attitude problem I don't want him anywhere near our locker room until he drops the "i'm the man" attitude.

Bosh - I'd love to have him but I'm thinking he gets traded THIS offseason (probably to Detroit). He would be a perfect compliment to Hibbert on the other side of the paint, and can extend the floor if need be.

Joe Johnson - Joe's an excellent player, and one of the most underrated scorers in the NBA. Be that as it may, I don't see that we will need another SG if Rush is our SG of the future.

Boozer - I really just don't like him. For some reason, I just see him fading into obscurity in the next few years. Nothing about his game blows me away and I feel like if we're going to spend that kind of money we should get a guy who is a bit younger and has the potential to stick around for 5-7 years and be just as productive towards the end of his contract as the beginning.

Unlikely. Why would teams want 1 year rentals? They can get the cap space immediately if they let their player walk. And there's lots of other guys for them to spend on. Anyway, we'll need to hold on to our big contracts and let them expire. That is the best thing we can do financially. Also, it gives us a good relationship with our guys to bring them back at much lower salaries. They will be important rotation veterans in the big scheme.

Calling It Now: IndieRuso420 will be wrong about at least 1 thing in 2010.

Maybe next year, everybody will be grabbing up bigs and Willie Warren will fall to us.

Hey Grang33r - sure it won't be Harangody?

Aldrich will probably be too high to get unless you guys are thinking we draft top 5. Harangody doesn't make sense at all...he's a 2nd round prospect. Do your homework.

The Pacers will be players in 2011 not 2010. 2011 is major key if for nothing else they can go after Mike Conley and Greg Oden, who both will hit unrestricted free agency at that time.

I think our value will come from trading our expirings for players on longer deals, not via Free Agency.

Only guy I really like on that list is Boozer, he could help our team a lot I think. He will be overpaid, though. I am sick of overpaying guys. Plus we have Hansbrough!! Sarcastic, but hopefully he does well.

Surely he'll opt out of his deal, making him a 2009 FA, not 2010.

Dude. I did my homework. That was such a painstakingly crafted joke.

I know what you were getting at, and I disliked the joke so much that I chose to treat it as a serious comment.
