Predicting Summer Roster Moves

What are your predictions for what the Pacers will do this summer as far as resigning our FAs, signing other FAs, possibly trading some guys and other moves this summer? Here are my thoughts:

- Travis Diener will use his player's option and take his $1.7mil
- Will resign Jarrett Jack as long as another team doesn't offer him something ridiculous
- Baston, Nesterovic, and Daniels are gone
- Will resign Graham and McRoberts as cheap extras
- Won't be able to trade Tinsley and will buy him out after arbitration
- Will sign a FA to add depth at SG/SF position
- Don't think we will be able to make a trade

This would give us:

PG Jack/Ford/Diener/Price
SG/SF Granger/Rush/Dunleavy*/Graham/FA
PF Murphy/Hansbrough/McRoberts
C Hibbert/Foster

I know a lot of you won't like this because it's boring, but it's what I think will happen.

-Whether there will be a trade or not, I do believe both Murphy and Ford will be shopped heavily.
-Hopefully Jack can be had for cheaper than wee expect to remove some financial troubles.
-I hope we can look to net ourselves some extra picks in the 2010 draft, probably not likely until during the regular season though.

I don't see Ford being shopped any longer. We will need him at PG for the year. He waws solid last year, and I would really expect more from him this year. He should thrive in our system with a full year under his belt.

I could see Murphy being dealt and possibly Foster (quite unlikely) for a wing player.

We need to resign Jack. He is the combo guard that we need for our offense. He can be the 6th and be very effective. He can start at the 1 or the 2 and can also be solid.

McRoberts and Graham will likely return, low cost options who know the system are always valuable...especially with finances being tight.

PG - Ford
SG - Rush
SF - Ganger
PF - Hansbrough
C - Hibbert
Key Reserves:
Jack
Murphy
Foster
Additional Depth:
Price
Diener
Graham
McRoberts

Looks to me like we will need on more piece...imo Daniels could fit that need if he can be brought back forthe right price. I would also like to see if we could land Dahntay Jones or Kyle Korver for the wing reserve.

-Diener already exercised his option so he's definitely in the fold as the 3rd PG.
-I would be willing to bet that Jack, Graham, and McRoberts are all brought back (Jack cheaper than we anticipated)
-Tinsley will be bought out but it won't be cheap
-Price won't make our roster and we will end up signing an undrafted player this summer (likely a SF)
-Murphy and Ford will both be on our roster at the end of the season.

You don't honestly think that Hansbrough is going to come in and take the starting spot from Murphy do you? Aside from the fact that he won't outperform Murphy right away, we're not going to bench our most reliable player on the team last year for a RC (not to mention the fact that Murphy is getting paid $10 million next season). At most Hansbrough will be the 7th man on our roster this season.

I do think Hansbrough can come in and take the starting role away from Murphy. I doubt he takes over day one, but I do feel he is the better fit.

Ford - Rush - Granger are all good scoring options. Hibbert is a decent option as well. We don't need Murphy's offensive game as much with the first unit as we will with the second.

Even Psycho T laughs at that

Yes, lets have our starters come off the bench as a way of adding depth to our bench, that's genius. Seriously, how do you come up with these brilliant ideas. Amazing that no one has ever thought of playing there best players less before.

You do what is best for the team. There are several teams that may not start the best 5 players on the roster...it happens ever day.

Lakers have started Walton over Odom, Magic start Lee over Pietrus, Bulls have Gordon come off the bench, we used to have Harrington come off the bench.

I also feel you a few here feel Murphy is a great player..he had a great statistical season, but he is far from a great player.

I don't think starting an unproven rookie IS the best thing for the team. I liked the Hansbrough pick, but that doesn't mean that I think he should be starting over a proven veteran like Murphy. I can't imagine there being a guy that averages a double-double that gets hated on more.

There's little chance that Hansbrough starts for the Pacers next year unless Murphy is either traded or injured.

Make Trades:

Pacers/Phoenix-
Murphy
Ford
Dunleavy

for

Stoudemire
Barbosa

Pacers/Clippers-
Murphy
Ford
Dunleavy

for

Davis
Camby
Gordon

Shake it up!

Tinsley can hopefully be bought out at 1/2 price thru arbitration and have his salary not count against cap.

Both Phoenix and the Clippers would decline these trades imo.

my take…

IND Outgoing / HOU Incoming
Troy Murphy
T.J. Ford

HOU Outgoing / IND Incoming
Tracy McGrady
Chuck Hayes

Trade Successful: Trade ID #5153640

For IND: We get a stellar wingman to play with Danny G. in T-Mac – who HOU is trying to move – and a frontcourt rotation player in Hayes. This makes us commit to Jack as our starting PG with Deiner and Price after him in the depth chart. This also opens up the roster for Tyler to get serious burn.

For HOU: In TMurph, HOU gets a big with range to open the floor for Yao; a solid PG rotation with Ford to pair with Brooks who they're high on.

This makes both teams remain competitive but at the end of the season, we get cap relief as we've traded significant salary and T-Mac is a 1-year rental. Not sure about the figures, but maybe big enough to join in the 2010 FA derby.

Gosh...20 mil...it hurts...

Hayes is great, I love him, but T-Mac would set Rush back a year, and the last thing we need is ANOTHER fragile wing, with Dunleavy here. Between (when he returns) Dunleavy, Granger, and Rush, I think the wingman rotation is pretty set. Not sure if the Pacers are going to be doing a lot of moving and shaking in 2010, since our economic woes are very much in the present.

hmmm… i think we pretty much trade away and assume the same amount with TMurph and TJ's contracts.

T-Mac is pretty much a 1-year rental for his expiring contract and to provide scoring while Dunleavy is out. i think McG will make sure he plays much of the season to prove he's got what it takes, specially on a contract year.

am high on Rush myself, but if our main goal is a playoff spot, then i think T-Mac should start (and should help) with Rush as a supersub-type to both Tracy and Danny. besides, if McG does go down, Rush gets to start.

T-Mac would be a big waste of roster space, IMO. I don't think Indiana needs him. Though his expiring contract would be really nice, Ford and Murphy for T-Mac and Hayes would be like casting pearls and getting porkchops in return. We're not gonna get good use for those two guys.

Trading Murphy away, and giving Hansbrough the starting spot would be a big big risk. That could end Larry's career for good. I really think Murphy would be beneficial in the long run, i hope we could re-sign him to a smaller contract once it expires. That would be my stand for this season.
Unless we're gonna get a valuable pf in next year's draft, i'm gonna stick with keeping Murphy.

Calling Tracy McGrady stellar, at this point, is laughable.
