Shannon Brown Off Pacers Radar

Well he's headed back to the Lakers with a two-year deal. To bad I would have liked him. Some guys I can see us going after are Anderson Varejao (won't have the money probably), Rodney Carney, Dahntay Jones. Who else do you guys want?

Joey Graham, aught to put it all together someday, maybe for us.

Hmm, that would be interesting. I think he would be good to, he can also post up a little if needed. That's a good thought. Any others that you can think of?

I was too big on Shannon Brown. I mean, he was great for the Lakers and even took over he back up role to Derek Fisher, but he was more like a bum before going to Los Angeles. He was just a throw-in in the deal where Lakers got Morrison. What i'm saying is, i am not sure a guy like him can succeed everywhere and if he played on a poor team, i wonder if he'd get back to his reality. Where as in Los Angeles, the system, expectations and team around him, make him a better player.
The guy i want is Dahntay Jones. For the right price of course. He is the perfect sub for Brandon Rush at shooting guard. He won't "wow" anyone on offense but he's a very good shut-down defender. He did a very good job on Kobe Bryant in the playoffs. He actually scored a bit too in several games. When our starter goes off the court, we can have Jones in to make sure we don't get scored on in bunches.

Dahntay Jones needs to be our #2 priority at this point. Re-signing Jarrett should be priority #1.

I agree with Dunthreevy as well. Jack is definitely the #1 priority. I would love to see Jones in a Pacers uniform.
Has anyone heard of the Pacers bringing him in or being interested in him? I know there's interest in Luther Head, although I'm not all that thrilled about that. Interest in Jones would be awesome.

Yeah, it has been reported that we have interest in Jones.

Do you have a link for that or anything? I would love to see it.

From Mike Wells' blog -
The Pacers have expressed interest in Denver free agent Dahntay Jones.
Jones, who only made $797,000 last season, is the type of player the Pacers should go after because he doesn't need the ball to be effective. He enjoys playing defense, which is not something many Pacers can relate to.
Jones wasn't the only player the Pacers reached out to Wednesday.
They also called about free agents Anthony Carter, Linas Kleiza (restricted) and reportedly about restricted free agent Marcin Gortat.

Oh that's awesome. Those would be very good pickups. I like the Jones and Kleiza ones especially. Carter might be good, but we have a PG's and he's getting older, maybe both Jones and Kleiza?

Someone on this forum mentioned we've had interest in Anthony Parker from Toronto. If true, that is who i would want most. I don't watch too much of Toronto games and all i know Parker as is the offense he brings, but if he's defense is above average, i'd love to have him. Hard working player. Good scorer. Jones or Parker is who i'm hoping for. But i agree, priority needs to be on re-signing Jarrett Jack.

Just reading Pacers.com and saw another name i'd love to have, more so then Jones or Parker. Rodney Carney. He's still young, only 25 years old and is a local kid. He could be a shutdown defender one day in the NBA. He has the defensive tools to be a very good defender. He also has a really nice shot, great speed and is a Fred Jones-like performer with his dunks and crazy plays.
Weird, i watched some NBA TV last year and saw Carney (only really saw him on highlights like SC before) and i was like wow, wish Pacers could get him.... then i looked at his age and figured no way T-Wolves would let him go. Hmm... maybe?

Brown may have been nice, but this isn't a huge loss. He looked pretty athletic and is a good defender, but I didn't see a whole lot of offensive game. I think we can find a player like him.

I also agree with the general sentiment: #1 priority is signing Jack; #2 is bringing in a wing - first choice: Dahntay Jones; second choice: Rodney Carney; third choice: either Graham brother, Kareem Rush, Anthony Parker, etc. - basically any bigger wing who can play some defense.

Three types of wing players:
1. ==Tough defenders==
FA: Dahntay Jones, Fred Jones, Anthony Parker
2. ==3-point shooters==
FA: Kareem Rush, Luther Head, Morris Almond
3. ==Athletic guys==
FA: Rodney Carney, Joey & Stephen Graham
What's the order?
IMO, it's 1 > 3 > 2. Thoughs?!

Laydo-First off Morris Almond was signed to a small contract by the Knicks last week I believe, at least that's what one article said, so I don't think he will be available.

I would agree about the order of need for us. I don't want Kareem Rush back here though. He's extremely streaky and plays 0 defense. Luther Head would be great off the bench for our offense but plays even less defense than K. Rush. I think Carney could be a decent pickup and he's still very young. Anthony Parker won't sign with us because he can get more money and get it from a better team, or play overseas again. Fred Jones I don't want. He's undersized and can't guard the SG + SF positions, like Jones can.
Dahntay Jones
Rodney Carney
Stephen Graham
Those are the top 3 on my want list.

Summer League contract. Nothing guaranteed.
Kareem Rush has signed the same deal with Denver this summer.

Oh ok, thanks Scoot, I only saw the headline that said Almond signs with Knicks. Thanks for clarifying that. Yeah he'll be out there, that would also be an interesting pickup that would help our teams shooting.

I've actually liked Almond and been waiting for him to get a chance in Utah, but that obviously wasn't in their plans. He had back to back 50 point games in the D-League last year. The kid can score.
