Jarrett Jack, how much is too much?

Post#1 » by 8305 » Sat Jul 11, 2009 12:21 pm

It appears Jarrett Jack is the last order of business for the Pacer's off season. Can't imagine him getting an offer of more than the MLE. Toronto (do they still have the full MLE to use?) is a great fit. They will likely not have an exceptional answer at the 2 and they really need a backup pg. No question they are all in for the up coming season. Would we match a full MLE offer to Jack? If no, do we need a plan B and what would it be?

Getting anxious on this myself.
But it's still relatively "early" prior
to the start of training camps so
I guess there's a wait-and-see period
that can be afforded.

Just hope this doesn't drag where
things are getting sour like how POR's
been handling negotiations on B-Roy's
extension.

Peg the price on JJack at the full MLE
at the most. In this economy, I doubt
he gets a better starting rate. But we
have to act with a little more urgency.
If we wait for a team to offer him that
much, consider him gone since we used
part of our MLE to sign Dahntay Jones.

We don't need any of our MLE to sign Jack...we have a Bird Exception for him.

However, we won't match a full MLE, and it's pretty unlikely someone will offer it to him.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

I doubt we go above 4MM per for him. If he gets a better offer I would imagine we look to plan B.

We do have Ford, Diener, Price as PGs on the roster. While we could use a better #1 or #2 PG we aren't desperate. Ford and Diener are capable players and PRice looked solid in the summer camp.

3 to 4 year deal starting between 3 and 3.5 million per year would be about the max I would consider doing.

I'd be comfortable going 4 years for $16 million, but not much more than that. I really really like Double-J but we have to be smart about our financial position.

I wouldn't pay him much more than 4.5 million annually.

3 years 10-12 million MAX.

This team is going to have a young star PG in place come 2011, so I wouldn't commit more then 3 years. Otherwise it'll start to interfere salary wise when Rush and Hibberts restricted years come up.

Word going 'round is that Toronto is about to give Jack an offer sheet, and while no numbers have been tossed out, it wouldn't be surprising if they were throwing something close to the MLE at him to force the Pacers to blink.

it's going to be full MLE and you gotta overpay to pry a RFA away from a team.

i would say it's the max MLE for 4 years.. we want to force the Pacers to let him go. So this is what you have to do.. It;s like how Dallas got Gortat away from ORL

Go for it. Good for you guys.

Can't see the Pacers match it, and looks like TJ Ford is going to be our starting PG for sure, and that we might be bringing in a veteran or two to compete with AJ Price for the roster.

God, I hope it's not Anthony Carter.

If the Pacers lose Jack, they will have the full use of exceptions without going over the luxury tax in my mind.

Once the Pacers remove Jack's salary restriction they should have about 6 million, including all current exceptions to go after a PG.

You wonder if the Pacers can sign Nate Robinson with the rest of that 3.4 million exception? Or even Ramon Sessions?

Since both of those guys are restricted free agents, $3.4 million would be an easy match for both of their teams.

If you can get Sessions for the MLE, or even a bit under, take it and run.

IMO, expect the Pacers to match this offer..... I had a feeling once Jones was signed that some team was gonna make a play for Jack.

I would be shocked if we matched. Unless we can trade Ford, Murphy or Dunleavy matching that amount would put us in absolute salary hell next season.

Ugh.... did they ever announce what the value of the offer sheet from Toronto was??

I say that we'd match solely on the fact of last years' draft-day trade-- it would make it nearly a moot point, we could've drafted Rush outright and later done a trade to move Diogu. Heck, we don't even have McRoberts under contract! If Jack goes, I dearly hope this is all part of a plan that will be revealed soon....

C'mon Larry, I know you've got a trick or two up your sleeve-- 8-)
