Ken Berger of CBSSports.com is reporting that the Raptors are close to signing restricted free agent Jarrett Jack to an offer sheet.

If Jack signs with Toronto, the Pacers would have seven days to match the offer.

Could be bad, depending on the contract. Guess we'll wait and see.

Would Jack really sign with Toronto? He's said numerous times that he feels "indebted" to the Pacers for giving him the chance he didn't get in Portland and how he felt like he had to repay the Pacers for believing in him.

Then again, it's a business and if the money is there, he's got to take it.

He went to Georgia Tech with Bosh, and supposedly, they remain good friends. If the Pacers want Jack back enough, they'll match him. If they don't, he's Canada-bound. I think Jack would be okay with coming back, but the Pacers probably aren't going to get the discount they were hoping for.

Completely depends on the offer and how the offer is structured. We'll see.

If it's a full MLE with maximum raises, then he's Toronto's, and with good measure.

raptor fan here, i assume the offer will be for 4 years 20 mil plus and it will be toxic, (maximum signing bonus, trade kickers etc)
would Indiana match that, considering they have about 8 guards.
Ford, diener, (tinsley), price, rush, (dunleavy), dhantay jones.

best guess for me is 4 yr 22 mil with maximum salary first year(5.9) and decreasing from there.

From a Blazer fan, I wasn't able to pay attention to how Jack played in Indiana. I'm curious to hear from Pacer fans how well he did there. I know a lot of Blazer fans became frustrated with his turnovers and inconsistencies. How did he do there? Would you like to see him resigned with the Pacers?

I liked him. He had some decision making problems early in the year, but they were largely gone later. He played extremely well after the All Star break.

I'd love to re-sign him, but I'm very afraid that Toronto will put him out of our price range.

Interesting. If he found his niche with the Pacers I would like to see him stay there and continue to improve and play well. I liked him but I don't think he found his niche with the Blazers. Well, for what it's worth I hope he stays in Indiana.

Um, Toronto can pretty much just offer the full MLE in the first year of the deal. It must be spread out over the full guaranteed portion of the contract. When using the MLE, that means the salary must be reduced so that the 1st year is not larger than the actual MLE. So, the Pacers would have to pay out cash in the 1st year, but it wouldn't affect the number against the salary cap or luxury tax, which is the biggest issue for Indy.

As for matching, Tinsley is never playing in Indy, so you can remove him from the rotation. Dunleavy is out until January, at the least. Price is a long-term developmental PG. Diener is a 3rd PG type emergency PG. That leaves Ford at PG, Rush at SG, and Jones backing up the SG/SF spot. There's plenty of room for Jack, especially since there's no guarantee that Price will make the roster.

However, if it's the full MLE, I can't see Indy matching that. That's just too much money for Jack. However, if it's only the first year is the full MLE, and it's decreasing after that, that's a different story.

I assume that Toronto offers the full MLE with maximum raises, and at that point, I say that Toronto is crazy for tying up so much of their cap on Jarrett Jack, especially when Bosh could leave them with nothing.

I don't think we'll chase. Price has been a splendid surprise and Diener can probably hold the fort while he is learning. big question is whether or not TJ will rise to the challenge.

There's also the possibility that Toronto offers a flat, or even declining contract to Jack, one that would start at the MLE but pay him an average contract a decent margin below that, perhaps with a player option tacked on after three seasons. Jack would get as much as if Toronto started him at, say, $4.5m-5m (I'm assuming no one else would offer more), but it would serve as a poison pill for Indy given your salary standing.

Then again, Colangelo has never been afraid to throw around a little cash, so a maxed-out MLE is definitely in play.

So Jack signs with Toronto to go be Calderons back up? Has anyone seen the $$ involved? Could we match it and trade him to them for say a #1 pick and Roko Ukic>? 8-)

If memory serves,
If the Pacers match the offer sheet Jack cannot be traded to Toronto for a year?

I can see where Toronto can rationalize the full MLE for Jack. He really fits a need for that team in much the same way Jones did the Pacers. They aren't that strong at the 2 and definately need a backup at the pg. Toronto solves a couple of problems with one player.

Long term Indiana really doesn't have the same pressing need for a guy who can play the one and the two. Jones, Granger and Rush should be a pretty good at the 2 and 3 and at some point Dunleavy returns and those two positions become our strongest without Jack.

It comes down to whether Jack can be a solid pg. If you think he can be he would be worth the full MLE. If not that's too much money for a guy who would ultimately be our backup pg.

While I don't think Jack is worth the full MLE since I think his strength is his ability to adequate at two positions one of which is pretty solid without him. Ray Sessions one the other hand would make sense with the full MLE as I feel better about him being a solid long term answer at the point. I think his game could be pretty lethal in our system.

I don't think it matters who is never playing again, or who is out till when.
They still count against the cap, and there are bigger needs on the roster.

Its also a lot of scratch and roster spots committed to the 1/2 spot, if one of Ford or Tinsley was moved or even linked to a semi serious rumor then perhaps tossing 4-5 million at Jack is viable but as its sits right now if the offer is matched, then there may be a lotta guards on the roster come training camp.

I wanted to see Jack come back, but I'm not worried if he doesn't. We're better off without him, than overpaying for him. Although, I figured if he went to another team, it would be someplace where he would start, which won't happen in Toronto. Oh well, Ford is the more talented player, hopefully he excels in his second year with the team and stays healthy.

In these situations, would we have to use our MLE, or just match the amount?
