Ford, Deiner, Price.....

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Sun Jul 12, 2009 4:22 pm

How would people feel about this being our PG tandem for 09-10????

The Pacers were not prepared to match anything above four million a season on Jack.

And from what I gathered from Twitter, things started going south when the Pacers brought in wings instead of putting that time and money on Jack.

So it seems he's gone and maybe for good reasons. He was nothing before O'Brien and very will be nothing after him either. Lke Anthony Johnson and Rick Carlisle.

We have to have a backup plan. If Bird thinks that going into the season with that platoon of PG's is a recipe for success, he's an idiot (and I don't think that he is).

I think Ford can handle the role and could actually be a great PG under OBriens system. If healthy, Ford will be fine, Price can handle a few minutes and we know Doener is fine in a limited role.

Price playing so well in camp proabably made this a really easy decision...He showed them what he is capable of!

Ooh boy... I hope we get Marcus Banks. That'd be even better than getting Scott Pollard for Brad Miller.

Toronto's over the salary cap having signed Turkoglu and traded away Marion. Pacers can only get back half of what they sign Jack for, so the idea is a bit useless.

Price just made the team, and possibly 12 man roster.

If Jack already signed the offer sheet, then there legally can be no sign and traded constructed. At that point, Indy only has the option of matching, or not matching the offer sheet. Nothing else.

If we match the offer sheet, Jack cannot be traded to Toronto for a full calendar year.

I don't like those PGs at all. Basically Ford would be the only PG worth much and he has been injury prone most of his career. That's a lot to put on him and expect much. Diener isn't too bad of a 3rd PG and its hard to say anything about Price yet. We would save a lot of money but wouldn't really help win any games.

What happens if we don't sign another PG and Ford gets hurt. Is LB going to call Tinsley and tell him he can have his locker back?

We need a new PG badly. Letting Jack go will haunt us.

we'll be fine...we're not contenders anyways...if ford can play
70-80 games deiner + price is decent enough for who we are...if ford goes down wouldnt we be in the same position as any other team that loses their best PG?

No. You're assuming that Diener + Price = an adequate backup PG. Unless Price is much better than a 52nd pick in the draft, that thinking is probably gonna be wrong. Diener is a solid 3rd PG, but I am in no way comfortable with him or Price as the backup.

Even if Price does turn out as a "steal" in the 2nd round, it will take him a few years to develop into a PG who can play some minutes in the NBA. And if Diener has to play a lot of time, we're in big trouble. I like the kid, tries hard and all, but he just lacks some much needed skills you just need to have to be a successful player in the NBA.

I mean, on several web sites after the draft, including Mike Wells' blog, i read the possibly of Price, our 52nd pick, over taking Diener as the teams 3rd string PG..... and now we're discussing if both of these guys are to be our backups? Come on..... have our expectations fallen that far down? It's almost like hitting rock bottom.

Hopefully Bird has something up his sleeve because next years point guard class isn't that great either besides John Wall.

Ford, Diener and Price.. sounds bad.
Larry still got some days left to think it over.
I like Jack, i'd like him to be a part of the young core Larry and Obie's been building for quite some time now. It's not that i hate Ford, i just feel that Jack could be more serviceable in the long run.
And with Ford's injury, nobody knows how long will he last. He maybe good, let's say he could be one of the best pg's in the league today. But everybody knows he's one of NBA's most fragile players too.
I hope we could still find a way to re-sign Jack. There's gotta be a way.
