Pacers Turning to Sessions?

Scuttlebut in LV is Pacers among 4 teams eyeing Ramon Sessions.

from Journal Time Gery Woelfel of Milwaukee's Journal Times

Seems to me that it would have to be a S&T because he's surely going to want more than the 3 million and change we can offer him. Would Milwaukee have interest in Foster?

They can't do a sign and trade on Sessions because the bucks don't possess his Bird rights.

I really don't know how Larry could convince the Bucks to like his "would be" proposal, considering that all we can give up is TJ and maybe Foster.
How about via three-way trade?
Just a quick idea, i don't know if this would work cap-wise, haven't checked with the trade checker yet.

IND - MIL - MIA

INDIANA
In:
Ramon Sessions

Out:
TJ Ford
Draft rights to Stanko Barac

MILWAUKEE
In:
Jermaine O' Neal
Daequan Cook

Out:
Ramon Sessions (S&T)
Dan Gadzuric

MIAMI
In:
TJ Ford
Dan Gadzuric
draft rights to Stanko Barac

Out:
Jermaine O' Neal
Daequan Cook

The trade won't work because MILWAUKEE doesn't have salary space to land JO.

Doesn't make sense for us because we would still be thin at point guard.

?? What? They can absolutely sign and trade him.

The only deal that makes any remote amount of sense to me is if we do a S&T. We sign Sessions, we ship Foster.

There is no issue with them doing a sign and trade with sessions. It's perfectly within their capabilities. That deal with Miami has no chance of happening because like it was said Milwaukee doesn't have the cap space, plus I'm pretty sure Miami wants JO there (at least Wade does).

Sessions is an Early-Bird free agent, not a full Bird rights free agent, since he's only played with Milwaukee and in the NBA for 2 years, not 3.

The most Sessions can sign for in the 1st year of his new deal is $5.8 million (listed as the league average salary). Milwaukee can match any offer up to that. However, Sessions would then be BYC since it would be more than a 20% raise for him.

Financially, it's much better for Sessions to take a one-year contract from Milwaukee, play it out, get full Bird rights, and then go out and sign the absolute best contract he can get.

Speculating on two rumors/ideas. Why would the Pacers feel the need to sign a free agent center when we have Hibbert, Foster and Murphy who can play the position now? Given the lack of quality centers out there whoever we would sign would get essentially no run.

However if the Pacers were looking to move Foster in a trade aimed at getting a point guard the center acquisition would make some sense. Management just wanting to make sure they have addressed Foster's replacement before moving him.

Mike Wells says Sessions is out of the picture now

We've usually always brought in one more center than we think we need. We brought in guys like Zan Tabak and John Edwards for just that reason. Sometimes it's in hopes of developing them, and other times it's just in case of famine (or injury, depending on how you look at it).

Yea, we have been known to fill the roster with a Zan Tabak.

We will know if my idle speculation has legs from the big we bring in. Jamal Maglore, Chris Wilcox etc. (someone you would play in a non-emergency situation and compensate accordingly) or someone of the Zan Tabak ilk.

I keep seeing Jamaal Magloire's name mentioned in various places. Seriously? The ONLY reason people want to bring him in is because he made one wholly undeserved All-Star game years and years ago. Even then he wasn't that good, but I could at least understand the interest. Lately though, the guy has been abysmal. He is terrible. He has no place in the NBA anymore.

This is not a rant on you 8305. I have just seen it mentioned in a variety of places and I felt the need to comment on it finally. My apologies.

second round pick

Since Sessions will be a BYC player, it's almost impossible to come up with a sign & trade deal that would work between Indy and Milwaukee.

The proposal above would not work.

I have to agree. I'd also say that Magloire has to have a GREAT agent, because he's convinced several teams since that 1 lucky season to give him undeserved contracts over and over again, with the prayer that he actually has some of that all-star season left in him. He doesn't.

i'm sorry I can't keep up with BYC for the life of me, who has to add/cut salary in that deal?

Milwaukee would only be able to take back 50% of Sessions' salary, or about $2,8mm, but he would count as the full amount to us, so we'd have to send out around $5.6-ish...so simplifying the deal to a Foster for Sessions move, Foster would have to go to a third team who was under the cap, and you could get a player making around $2.8-ish from that team...but it gets to be very convoluted at that point.

That's why I said it's virtually impossible to make such a deal work, as we're both over the cap.
