Pacers Depth Chart

Post#1 » by JYD31 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:42 pm

Don't get to see a lot of Pacers games out here in Ny and was wondering with all these moves the Pacers have made this offseason, what is your guys projected lineup/depth chart looking like to start the season? Would love to know what you guys think.
"Exceptional." - Phil Jackson
"Phenomonal." - A'mare Stoudemire
"Shrewd. Clever. Slick." - Walt Frazier
"Dope." - J.R. Smith

As of now, I'd think something like this.

Ford/Watson/Diener/Price
Rush/D. Jones/Dunleavy
Granger/Dunleavy
Murphy/Hansbrough/McRoberts
Hibbert/Foster/McRoberts

1 T.J. Ford/ Earl Watson/ Travis Diener
2 Dahntay Jones/ Brandon Rush
3 Danny Granger/ Josh McRoberts
4 Troy Murphy/ Tyler Hansbrough
5 Roy Hibbert/ Jeff Foster

with Dunleavy out with injurey, Tinsley banned from the team, and 2 extra slots to fill

With our current roster and assuming Watson is all but ours.

Ford/Watson/Diener/Price
BRush/Dunleavy (when he returns)/Jones

Your chart is pretty much the same as mine, except BRush will start over Jones.
Jones will be the primary backup at SG to start the season.

I think you all have it about right but you really are only listing 11 guys with Dunleavy out and Price inactive which means another small forward needs to be added to the roster.

Ford/Watson/Diener
Rush/Jones
Granger/Jones
Murphy/Hansbrough/McRoberts
Hibbert/Foster

I'm not including Price or Dunleavy until A, Price is signed, and B, Dunleavy is healthy.

McRoberts playing the 3? I don't see it.

exactly. We need another wing, a legit sf or a combo forward. I think Larry would like to explore playing McBob at the 3, but until he develops we're gonna need a reliable back-up to Danny. I don't mind adding a rookie though, if the vets are going to be too expensive. Bottom line is, while McBob adjusts to his role as an sf, we better have a legit small forward at hand.
Dunleavy can play both sg and sf but the question is: when will he come back? Until then, we have to patch the blackholes in our rotation, somehow.
Some quick names i've been thinking of:

Stephen Graham - very serviceable and could be very cheap.
Leon Powe - injury prone; high-risk, high-reward type of guy
Rodney Carney - superbly athletic, high-potential.
Matt Barnes - really good defender, and has decent range.
Joey Graham - a potential offensive option; unproven defensively.
Leo Lyons

Our lineup will change a lot throughout the season. It is apparent we need a cheap b/u for Danny.

When Dunleavy really comes back, not initially, but when he's 100%, he will start over Rush. I just don't think Brandon can produce like Mike. I also see Roy and Jeff flip-flopping starts. Ford is the clear-cut starter, but Earl will push him to get better. The only certainties are at pg/sf/pf.

Ford/Watson/ Diener
Rush/Jones
Granger/Jones/McRoberts
Murph/Hansbrough/McRob
Hibbert/Feisty

So that would be March of 2010, with just a month or so remaining in the regular season? Dunleavy will most probably sit the rest of 2009 and a couple of months more while rehabilitating, and i wouldn't count on his reported possible return dates. For the first +/- 5 months, we're likely to see Rush produce starter's numbers. I don't really see him dropping his numbers from what he had towards the end of last season. He'll sure find plenty of opportunities with Obie.

I still think we should've (or should) trade a 2nd rounder for Chase Budinger. See how he does and put him as back-up SF (behind Granger obviously, but also have Dahntay take up most of the back-up minutes at SG and SF).

I hope we make a PG change. It is fine with me if TJ is our back-up, but I personally would like to see someone else as the starter. Hopefully TJ makes me look stupid and has a great year with the Pacers.
