Newest rumor about Pacers (Solomon Jones)

Post#1 » by Indydave » Wed Jul 22, 2009 8:00 pm

I got a little bored and went to Hoopshype.com and looked at the rumors section, hoping to discover something about the possible Boston/Indiana trade today, and instead discovered something just as interesting. It lists an entry by Sekou Smith on Twitter.com-- I don't follow him much, so I don't know how much to believe or not believe but it says:

"Word says that the Pacers are hunting Solomon Jones."

Even more interesting is that I can't find anything more about this, other than this Twitter posting.... What do you guys think??

Yeah, he's a FA the Pacers worked out a week or two ago...He's a min-level guy, but I doubt anything happens with him until they sort out the Boston deal.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

I've heard of him, but I don't know too much about him myself. Never really seen him play. He's young, cheap, a big body (6'10" 245lbs), and will fill out the roster I guess, but unless he can play the 3 I don't see how bringing him in makes sense.

He did come out of the dreaded 2006 Draft, which has turned out to be one of the biggest crops of busts in recent memory.

he also made this comment. Hawks hunting veteran bigs. Heard two names last night. Can't repeat yet. Either one helps solve the bird's big man issues, if they get 'em.

fouls a bit (2.0 per 10 minutes last year) and we need wing depth which I assume we're grabbing in the Boston trade(assuming that happens, but it seems like a done deal with the thought that starbury is taking their bi-annual)

If we get a wing, and shed tinsley next week to sign Price(I assume we'd send him to the Dleague after training camp) I'd take a flyer on a guy with a low price tag with a big body.

maybe even a sign and trade for deiner if his price tag is right and bird feels the upside is there.

Draft express was high on him coming out of college, with good reason.

I'd say C+ interest from me. Not a guy we need need because we drafted Tyler, and still have Mcbob/Foster/Hungry Hungry Hibbert/ and TMurda, but I'd do anything at this point to prevent having to see Danny at the 4.

maybe C++ interest because his name is Solomon.

I'm coo wit bringing him in...i don't know if he is who we need to back up Granger tho. While I'm coo wit Dahntay and Watson I just kinda wish we could've gotten a big name player instead of a bunch of role players. Dahntay was a solid pick, as was Watson, because we needed more defense, but I don't see how Solomon Jones helps us in any way reach the playoffs.

I don't see how Solomon Jones helps any team do anything honestly.

First off, Sekou Smith used to cover the Pacers for the Star. He left to go to the Atlanta Constitution and cover the Hawks/NBA for them. He's still in Atlanta as far as I know.

Solomon Jones spent the last few seasons with the Hawks, so there's a good chance Sekou Smith has the inside story here. When Jones was a draft prospect, whatever year that was, I remember thinking he might be a possible second-round sleeper. But he barely played at all in Atlanta. I'm guessing there's most likely a good reason for that. If he signs with the Pacers, he's probably just an insurance policy, an emergency fill-in if a bunch of our frontcourt guys get hurt or something. But, you never know...every once in a great while, someone in Solomon Jones' position finally gets a chance to show what he can do, and a star is born!

Mizzou, could you be talking about JO in your above post?
Burried on the bench in Portland and becomes an All Start here.

Perhaps S.Jones can be the next JO or perhaps not!

^ Go to the thread Chatard started about Vegas betting and odds given for his favorite teams. See my comments on the Pacers' odds of winning an NBA championship next Spring. I give Solomon Jones roughly the same odds of becoming the next Jermaine O'Neal.

I'd be thrilled if he just managed to deserve a little playing time.

From what I remember about Solomon Jones coming out of the draft was that he has good size, really athletic, raw offensively, and an exceptional shotblocker. Seeing as how this team doesn't exactly have a true shotblocker, other than Hibbert in some respects, he'd fill a need.

Solomon Jones can't play SF. He's a PF/C tweener...decent but I don't see why the Pacers want him as they are deep at C/PF and he'd be low on the list.
CENSORED... No comment.

I don't think we're worried about SF with Granger, Rush, Dunleavy, and possibly Jones able to play the spot, and possibly getting a Bill Walker in a trade with the Celtics revolving around Marquis.

The Pacers have always liked to have one or two guys on the roster as projects at the 4 and 5 spots. McRoberts was one last year, until he proved he could be an end of the rotation guy. Jones would probably be investigated as an emergency PF/C, since we like to play Murphy, Foster, and McRoberts at both the 4 and the 5, and Hansbrough would be our only strict 4 and Hibbert would be our only strict 5.

we've still got two roster spots to fill if we are going to carry 14 and if Price is a keeper the missing two will probably both be front court players. so this could be one with a wing being the other. Sekou probably has access to rumors both in Atlanta and Indy so the source is credible.

Somebody remind me, but I don't think Sekou was ever a rumor guy. He was more of a fluff piece writer, wasn't he?

No, no, no...

Rumor has it that he worked his way through college as a fluffer.

But I could see where you could get that confused.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.
