I kno this has been thrown around a little in the past and a lot of you feel he is a bad fit because he will destroy the team, but i think that Iverson is in no position to make demands therefore would have to take whatever he's offered. I dont see how much harm he could do if given a one year deal...not to mention the guy can still fill seats which is something we desperately need. I came across this earlier:
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/231721-iverson-in-indiana-or-oklahoma-cityIf Bird gets A.I. I think we'll b more willing to let daniels go...I dont believe Iverson is washed up, he was just put in the wrong system last year.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it, but we don't have the money....so it would have to be a S&T; and I'm not sure I see the Pistons and the Pacers working on a trade anytime soon.

Yea i wasnt sure how much money we had left since we've already done our share of spending. I think the Thunder would b a better fit for him anywayz...would b nice if Detroit helped us out a little tho.

I'd take him if we got rid of Ford.

Signing Iverson and dumping Ford in a S&T would do nothing but leave us in a position where we would literally have ZERO PG's under contract after this season. I'm not so sure that would be a good idea.

Yea i think at this point in his career iverson realizes he needs to do wutever it takes to win...if he had a choice i think he would come here cuz, outside of Miami, we're the closest team to a contender that has shown interest

I am all for bringing in A.I. as long as Granger is the focal point of our offense. Honestly this team could be Iverson's dream job. The way our offense is spread he could penetrate empty lanes, enabling him too exploit with the assist or easy finish.
Iverson's stock is as low as it's going to get. Just because he couldn't gel with established teams doesn't mean he is done. I'd take Allen @ TJ's salary for three years. At roughly 8 mill he could be moved relatively easily if need be.

I'm trying not to visit this topic too much, just because I don't want to get my hopes up even thinking about it.

yeah, we don't have our MLE anymore because we spent it on dahntay jones, earl watson and solomon jones (sigh)
i think the only way we could bring him here is through a sign-and-trade and i don't see that happening. man, this is sad. we could have made a play for iverson for only a one-year deal, brought some fans back, and seriously made a push for the playoffs but instead we settle for mediocrity again.

The S&T talks may be somewhat plausible though. The original article is from August 5th. There hasn't really been much talk from the organization about TJ Ford, no votes of confidence or anything like that. Maybe they are trying to come up with a S&T.

I don't want Iverson anywhere near this team. Headcases aren't welcome here. He is one of the least efficient players in this league.

Iverson had his MVP season under Jim O'brien...and he went to the same school as Hibbert...lol yea im trying to figure out reasons why Iverson would wanna come to Indy

He may be a headcase, but he still has some left in the tank and can make plays....If anything else he would put a lot more butts in the seats at Conseco, which is desperately needed

Fortunately the logistics of bringing Iverson in are pretty much impossible unless you are willing to part with say Jeff Foster in a sign and trade. I doubt the Pacers are willing to do that.
The "idea" of bringing him in is absolutely nuts. He is not a point guard. So the concept of trading him out with TJ in some way would mean that ultimately Watson is your starting pg. Does that mean you want him getting Rush's or Jones' minutes? So much for developing our young players or improving defensively. He would likely destroy team ball movement and we are likely a lesser offensive team too.
For what its worth if a team is going to allow one player to dominate the ball he better be LeBron, Kobe, Wade or Paul. Anyone else who plays that way is probably on a bad team.

I think Iverson was labeled as a shoot first guard because of his years in Philly but if you look at when he was put next to Melo his assist totals were right up there with T.J. Ford. Agreed that wasnt a good defensive team but you cant put that all on Iverson. He's always been at the top of the league in steals.
To be honest, I love Foster's game, but if we do put him in a sign and trade that will open up minutes for Solomon Jones and McRoberts. If anything the line-up would look like:
Ford/Watson/Diener/Price
Rush/Iverson/Dunleavy
Granger/D. Jones
Murph/Hansbrough/McRoberts
Hibbert/S. Jones
It'll be congested when Dunleavy comes back, but as much as I hate to say it, somebody ALWAYS misses significant time with our team.

Iverson did have a great year running the point under Jim O'brien (30.7ppg, 7.9apg, .424 fg%), but his MVP season came under Larry Brown.
By the way, Detroit had to relinquish his rights so that they could make their signings, so he could not be involved in a S&T, so it would have to be a free agent signing.

Iverson might not be a perfect fit in terms of what we are trying to do... but I would absolutely love if we somehow got him. He is not washed up, he is still one of the quickest, most fearless creators in the game, and I think whoever he plays for this year, he will have a bounce back year. Granger would still be the center of our offense, but I see Iverson as just an upgrade over TJ Ford in terms of being able to get to the hoop score/create. We would have to start him, but I really believe if we got him a one or two year deal through a sign and trade, we wouldnt regret it. Plus it would increase publicitly/sales for the Pacers, which we will definitely need.
although that being said, Im not really sure of a practical situation how we can work with Detroit to get him.
