OT: The Mustache!

Post#1 » by Dunthreevy » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:59 pm

The guys all seemed to have a lot of fun with the whole mustache contest last year. I personally made a halfassed attempt at one myself as a show of solidarity and my true fanhood. So I'm thinking maybe McBob, T-Murda, Feisty, Diener, and Jr. should go full-on mustache contest starting nowish. Foster's was about the most hideous thing I've ever laid eyes on, but McBob and Mike both had pretty solid 'staches. Troy even blogged about it ( http://my.nba.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5800019994 ) and named his stache "Johnny Cakes" If nothing else they were funny as hell to look at and it's always good to see the team bonding like that, ala the shaving of the heads for the Playoffs that our old teams from the 90's used to do.

I wish I could find a pic of McBob's Hulk Hogan-esque handlebar stache because it was a thing of rare beauty.

Strangely, it was after everyone shaved, that Mike went back on the injured list and Jeff and Travis missed some time right around there too if I recall correctly. Maybe the stache has special healing powers.

You don't think Phsyco 'T' would want in on that action? I would love it to see the ENTIRE team give it a shot...I think Rush would probably look the "best" when you couple his 'stache with the afrotop!

I don't think that Psycho T has sprouted his first facial hair yet. Brandon might be able to pull off something a little Artis Gilmore'ish, which could be awesome.

Rumor has it, that McBob's beard once killed an entire gang of Haitian drug smugglers and destroyed all evidence of their existence.

I'd take a bald Rik Smits and Chris Mullin over a mustached Dunleavy and McBob any day.
Too bad I can't find a bald Rik Smits picture. Gotta look through my stash of old basketball cards.

Awesome. Notice the contrast between Rik Smits and Big Z looking all suave with globs of gel on his head. He looks like he wears his shirts with the top 5 buttons loose to show off his gold chain.

I change my vote to mustache. They are much more hilarious.

My vote is for a mustached team over a bald team for sure. Nothing makes a grown man look more ridiculous than a molestache. One just has much more variation in style with the stache. For example:

The Morrison

The Selleck

The Plummer Porn Stache

The Aristocrat

The aristocrat is insane.

Has anybody ever revealed the reasoning for the stache show of solidarity. It has got to be either a tribute to Larry, or they are clowning him. I hope it's the latter.

Murph actually talks about the night they decided to grow the 'staches in his blog.

"There are many things on the court we can do to improve but as athletes we are superstitious and a bit quirky and look for things off the court as well. This is where the mustache idea came from. A lot of time on the road guys on the team end up going to dinner together and at one of these such dinners Mike pulled out his phone and showed a picture of him with a mustache from five years ago which was pretty outstanding.

This led to everyone sharing their facial hair stories and deciding that we would all grow mustaches to help our playoff push."

You should give it a read, Murph aslo goes on to talk about how he struggles to grow a 'stache so Dunleavy recommended he call a mustache aficionado!

Thanks for the info.

I don't think everyone was involved, the group primarily consisted of the white players. Jarrett already had his in Portland but it didn't look silly, well groomed.

I always read between the lines, if the purpose was for a playoff push, than why did some shave before the season concluded?

Their girlfriends/wives probably made them, I know mine would if I looked that ridiculous.

True, but you don't make millions of dollars.

How do you know that? He could be an injured professional athlete with a lot of free time on his hands, who fills that time with posting on message boards across the internets.

Bleeding Blue IS Mike Dunleavy. OR Bob Sanders. Either way, BB, hurry up and get back into the game.

Thanks but I have been here. I was formerly Indysports. I have been trying for 6 months to change to HSH (although I wasn't trying too hard), I was just too prideful to start a topic asking how. And the email I send to the Pacer mods email that was in a stickied thread was also unsucessful. Finally found a link in the off topic board to get it changed!!
