I was bored (ok, I was REALLY bored) and sat down and tried to predict the overall records of all the teams in the NBA. I seriously underestimated how difficult it would be, (especially the tedium of balancing the wins vs. losses against the two conferences) Anyways, I thought it seemed a little slow around here lately, so I'd love to hear everyone's opinion. I'm interested to know how far off I am from the general concensus.

well, uhhh... ok. DOH!

Lakers have 84 games played and cleveland is at 80 i believe.

Ok I've fixed the mistakes and taken my lumps, anyone have an actual opinion on the accuracy of the predictions?

Cavs and C's are too high, Magic are a little low in # of wins. Kings need to be below the T'Wolves (Al Jefferson healthy again + the developing core of the team), and the Nuggets are too low (I don't like them, but they are at least still top-5). Suns are too high.

The wins column is at 1228 total, so you're off from the 1230 total wins that are possible, which means that you are 2 losses two high.

The accuracy of the predictions can't be truly measured until the season's up, because circumstance can always change things. Are you factoring in injury-prone players? Team chemistry? I'm not taking shots at the idea, I think predicting records is a good way to pass the time, but it's just so hard to take all the factors into account. Once you predict the first team, everything else has to be sort of based off that to keep it 1230-1230.

Are you banking on Arenas and Haywood being injured again?

Wiz are much better than 39-43.

Even if they do, they've finally got depth behind them. They were putting out Mike James and Javaris Crittenton at starting PG last year. With Stevenson down, and Nick Young unable to grow into a starter they went with Butler at SG and Dominic McGuire at SF. It was brutal, not to mention Songaila at C. Now with Foye, Mike Miller and Oberto they've got reliable pieces who can step in and keep it afloat in case of injuries.

Perhaps, but there is evidence that would concern me. For example, Randy Foye's ability to run an offense has been, let's say erratic at best. Hell he was even looked over for Sebastian Telfair during a stretch last season. While Oberto is not exactly in the prime of his career.

I do however absolutely love the addition of Mike Miller. He's a tremendous intangible guy, who commits to all aspects of team play. So they will be better regardless of injuries, but probably not enough to be playoff bound unless Haywood and Arenas are healthy for the long stretch, and let's hope they do. I feel that Washington should be considered a title dark horse, pending successful returns.

Most guard defenses will be in fits having to face a healthy Arenas and Miller combination.
