AJ Price officially on the team

Post#1 » by Dunthreevy » Thu Sep 3, 2009 5:29 pm

Multi-year deal, "per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed"

I don't see him getting much if any playing time this season, unless someone gets injured but he may be able to learn the system for a season then be a 3rd or even 2nd option at PG next season (hopefully our PG situation is good enough we won't have to use him any higher than the 3rd option).

it's all up to TJ. he can play his way out of the rotation if he doesn't pick up his defense and decides to sulk.

also, Price could get around Diener. in fact, if he is what they hope, that's just a matter of time. might not happen as a rookie but I don't expect to see Travis back in 2010 unless he has another player option or guaranteed year in his deal.

I expect Price to get around Diener...it's really not much of a feat.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Watson has a 1 year deal, Travis expires next year.
That means Price has a year to learn the system and take his time.
Next year i would expect him to be our backup as a best case scenario in his development.

Coaches and Management are high on him so I guess there is some potential there.

Good news, I guess. Hopefully he can fit into the rotation at some point.

Just a thought: I feel Larry and the guys could explore the possibilities of trading Diener and Dunleavy (assuming he comes back early, and more importantly, impressive) before the trade deadline in 2010 to give Price and Rush decent playing time, get a possible first rounder for the loaded 2010 draft, young developing back-ups at sf and c, and maybe an expiring contract.

Not a huge surprise, but this move can't bode well for Travis Diener.

Diener's still ahead on the depth chart, right? If anything, this is just some insurance since TJ is kind of injury prone. Diener can shoot, and take care of the ball. A part of it could also be since the Boston deal didn't go down, we had the roster space so we're plugging Price in there as a young prospect who can develop and fight hard during practices.

Agreed with those above who say Price's time is not going to come for another season or two, if ever.

For this upcoming season, my hope for him is that he can cultivate a Jamison Brewer-level talent for looking snappy in street clothes behind the Pacers' bench. I miss the days of Brewer wearing white suits and looking like Jesus.

4 pg's is too much. we need a back-up 3

The fifteenth roster spot is still open--the Pacers could add a small forward if more depth is needed. But it isn't needed if Granger and Dunleavy are both healthy--anyone stuck behind those two guys would get zero playing time.

It's OK with me that the fourteenth roster spot is going to a fourth pg. The fourteenth guy is almost never going to play anyway. If Price is someone who can help the team in a couple of years, then he's a good guy to stash at the end of the roster. And if he never helps the team, well, no harm done.

Yeah, I'm beginning to think Lorbek doesn't even exist.

Lorbek's a good prospect. If either one of Stanko or Lorbek comes over, Lorbek is more likely to come over first. He's participating in the EuroBasket tournament for Slovenia right now and he's put together a couple good games so far, including 19 points in 20 min against Great Britain on 100% shooting (7/7 from 2, 1/1 from 3 and 2/2 from FT)
