Iverson - 1 year @ $3.5 million

Ouch. I know a lot of people wouldn't have wanted to bring him in. But ouch. We get Earl Watson for just a smidgen cheaper. It pains me. AI is a much higher caliber player than Dahntay Jones or Earl Watson. Some people would argue, but they'd be wrong. AI is on his downside, but he's still a better defender at the PG position and a better play-maker at PG and a better scorer at PG than we have on this roster. We could have gotten him dirt cheap. And while some people wouldn't have been hot on adding him to the team, he would've sold tickets in Indy - something we desperately need to do. I think we played our cards wrong this off-season. Ideally, we would've kept Jack, but if we had waited longer to let the market settle (like Bird said he would!) we would've gotten some good deals right about now.

AI doesn't want to be on this team.

Best $3.5 million not spent.

He hasn't helped a team for almost 5 years now. He didn't help Philly in the late years, he didn't help Denver, he didn't help Detroit, and I'm pretty sure he's not going to help Memphis, though I'm not sure any one person can help that team now. Seriously, Mayo, Gay, and Randolph starting with AI coming off the bench? What the hell are they gonna do? I bet you we'll see one of those guys steal the ball from their own teammate at least once this year.

I'll take Watson and Jones over Iverson right now. We're looking to improve this team. Iverson doesn't do that. I'm not 100% sure Watson and Jones will, but at least they seem like they give us a chance.

Oh, and I don't buy the whole "sign Iverson and Indy will sell tickets hand over fist" argument. Iverson wasn't the guy that sold extra tickets when he was a visitor in Indy, and I don't think Indy fan's are going to be fooled by an Iverson signing.

Though i do get your point, fienX420, i'm on the other side of things.
Adding Iverson would be like putting everything on waste. Iverson would take away all the opportunities for the youngsters, and eventually spoil Larry's 3-year plan. He needs to redeem his career and it doesn't automatically mean he's going to be better than his previous dwindling seasons.
Plus, are you looking at just a one-year window?
We don't need another headcase, really.
With the 3-year plan in mind, I'd still say the signing of Earl and Dahntay is way better than signing Iverson.

We wouldn't have wanted him. So it works for both parties.

Sidenote. Anyone actually shocked that he did actually go to Memphis and (reportedly) is happy coming off the bench? I understand why they would want him there, and the fanbase will obviously increase with A.I. there, but it seems awfully risky with all that young talent around there. With ZBo there already, they must not care too much for image currently.

I'm actually really surprised that Charlotte let this happen, he could have been great with Larry Brown, and they actually have a chance at the playoffs.

Oh come on guys, OBVIOUSLY Fien is joking, I can't believe your taking him seriously, he couldn't possibly have made it any more clear that hes not serious.

A good rule of thumb is, if the Grizzlies are looking to sign or trade for a player, do not sign or trade for that player.

I dunno - I think they could have a tough team. A lot of talent - they just need everybody to keep a good head (granted - odds are somebody goes off the deep end).

I've never liked Iverson, he was a great score at one time but he's on the down side of his career and wouldn't help us much and I don't think Indiana fans would take to him at this point! Maybe a few yrs ago but not now.

I can't see why Iverson would go to the Grizz don't you think he wants to win a title? If he could have got on with a Pheonix or San Antonio or even orlando he would have but my best guess is that the elite teams Cavs, Celts Lakers didn't want him!
