Guys I wouldn't trade Roy HIbbert for

A little redo of the 2008 draft. If any the following players were offered for Roy HIbbert I would turn the deal down:

Beasley
Love
Gallanari
Gordon
Alaxander
Augustine
Bayless
Thompson
Rush
Randolph
Speights
R. Lopez

As time passes I'm not sure there will be that much spread between B. Lopez and HIbbert. A component of virtually every championship team or a team who gets close is an above average 7 footer who has a post up game and the ability to block shots. Its a really tough position to fill. There are porbably 5 maybe 6 guys drafted for every 1 seven footer who truely works out.

Arguments could be made for Beasley, Augustine, Gordon, and Speights, but I agree that Hibbert is a valuable commodity right now, and hopefully our next Rik Smits.

Couldn't agree more. I still think Beasley is going to be an All-star caliber player in a couple years, as long as he puts his foolishness behind him. I'm a huge fan of DJ Augustine, but I wouldn't trade Roy for him unless we got more in the deal. The impression I got of Speights, when we had him in for the pre-draft workout, was that he is about as dumb as a box of rocks. The guy could barely form a sentence when he was being interviewed. I honestly don't think he's ever going to amount to more than a 2nd tier PF in the NBA. Gordon, I've never been a huge fan of, though he is talented he wouldn't really fill much of a need for us.

I think Roy's upside is about as good as any young big man in the league right now. I actually can't wait for Portland to come to town so we can see a Hibbert/Oden duel. They seem to both be coming into their own, and starting to pick up the pro game.

I think Roy will be better than Smits. Rick was never a consistent volume rebounder nor was he much a defensive presence. If Roy's numbers as they are right now hold up the rest of the season this year for Roy would argueably better than any Smits ever had.

while i agree that hibbert has a lot to like about him. i wouldn't discount these names. each one of them could end up being better than hibbert.

He could be. We still have yet to experience a full season without foul trouble. He's doing really well right now but tonight against the Celtics is going to be a challenge.

Agree the 2008 is viewed by many as one of the best (one year removed). Still a legit center doing the things Roy is doing is a big time commodity. The game tonight will be really interesting. A good test for all three of our young guys.

I'd definitely take Jason Thompson over him, and all the other guys on the list above. Dude is underrated as hell.

That said, I'm extremely surprised at how well he has progressed so far. I figured he would be another one in the Dalembert or (soon to be) Thabeet mold.

Talent wise I would say some of the above listed guys are better than Hibbert, but based on this teams' needs I think Roy is what the pacers need right now. It's hard to find a legit center in the league now days so I would hold on to Hibbert.

Too early to tell on some of them for me. If Beasley or Thompson were offered, I'd have a hard time discouraging the trade. Augustine, Gordon and Randolph are looking like pretty hot commodities as well.
