Early season player evaluations

Given we have now played approx 20% of the games I thought we could provide a brief analysis of each of the player.

Danny Granger C+
Not really sure about where to rate him. He has been playing well in some games and then playing not well in others. His last few games have been poor in terms of shooting percentages, actually really poor so that is why I have given him this grade.

Troy Murphy C
Again some games he has showed up, and others he hasn't. He won't score 30 pts per game but I don't think he has scored more than 15 pts this season.

TJ Ford C
I expect more assist out of him. He was sitting on a C - for me but the last few games have been relatively ok from points, assists and turnovers. Incidently Jamaal Tinsley has played very well in the last 2 games or so for the Grizzlies.

Brandon Rush C-
I expected more out of him given his promising finish last season. He has lost confidence in his shot and is almost looking to pass up every opportunity. He has been aggressive on defense and rebounding well though

Roy Hibbert C+
Consistency. He started off really well, building his double double streak (during our 5 game streak) but has since faded into obscurity

Mikey D A
Only 2 games but to come back from 12+ months of rehab and shoot, move and play as well as he has, well I'm impressed.

Solo Jones B-
He has played a bigger role than I though he would. He fouls a little too much and sometimes gets lost but so far he has exceeded my expectations

Dhantay Jones B
He was brought here for defense. Not seen this happen yet, but his offense has been great. I think so far he has been our most consistent offensive threat (Granger has had too many poor FG% nights)
I would have given him an A or A- if his defense was as good as advertised.

Earl Watson B
Again for a backup point he has exceeded my expectation and played well. His scoring well. If only those assists could be a little higher.

T Hans B-
Great start in his first few games. Has now slowed down a little. Obviously plays with super intensity and great heart. Rebounds pretty well for his limited minutes. Shooting percentage could be a little higher but overall a fairly promising start.

I won't comment on Foster, AJ Price, McBon and Obie as I don't have time.

Rush and Murph get an F. Rush because he plays like he's scared and Murph because he doesn't play D.

If the measuring stick is how they should be playing, then Murph and Rush do get lower scores. Granger is injured, don't forget.

Granger C+
He has been getting his numbers, but his shot selection has been pretty bad. His FG% is low because of that. I'd also like to see him improve his dribbling so he can create more for other teammates. Like someone said above..his grade is based on expectations.

Ford: D+
He's been bad. 'Nuff said

Murphy: C-
He hasn't seemed to find his offensive groove yet, and he's playing bad defense. I'm giving him this grade because he has been injured, otherwise it'd be lower.

Jones: B-
He's played well for the most part. Haven't seen much defensively, but his offense has been a huge plus. Sometimes he gets a little excited and tries to do too much, though. Overall, I'm happy with his play.

Hibbert: C
I'd like to see him get more minutes. when he gets playing time, he seems to do well. That string of consecutive double doubles proves he can be a very valuable asset at the Center position.

Rush: D
He has lost his confidence and lacks the heart. C'mon Rush!

Watson: A-
I'm loving Watson's play. He has the team under control whenever he is in and is playing much better than Ford. I'd like to see him start

Tyler Hansbrough: C
I'm not a fan of Hansbrough yet. Too many times have I seen him lose momentum for the Pacers. I'm looking forward to seeing him play better though.

Dunleavy: B
So far he's been pretty decent after coming back from injury. He's giving a nice spark off the bench and I can't wait til he's 100%

Dahntay Jones has been a pleasant surprise (although it's an indictment of the team's roster that he's been thrust into such a large role).

Granger's been a bit sub-par...but he's trying to play through an injury.

Ford has been a disappointment. Rush has been a mild disappointment.

Everyone else is pretty close to what I would have expected before the season started.

I'll try to find some time to post my player by player analysis, but in the meantime I notice:

We have lost 4 in a row, and I think 8 of our last 9. Also, I believe Danny was inactive that one win.

Perhaps we should bench him until he is 100%, clearly his "playing thru injury" isn't help us win games!
