who the replacement will be.
But the writing's on the wall.

I'm thinking if it's about time
we considered going the same
route. I don't think that JOB
will be taking us places anymore,
so why not reboot this early on?

per the ESPN article on Del Negro's
fate. Why not have a look at them?

There's also Tom Thibodeau who's
long been due for a head coaching
gig.

Not to forget aspirants like
Mark Jackson and Bill Laimbeer.

I think we have really good personnel
save for the PG position: it's just a
matter of direction-setting, getting
the players to buy-in, and holding them
accountable.

JOB's been useful and he's given us
something to root for. But maybe it's
time we shifted gears.

The same management that extended him will not fire him. As for whether he should stay or go, I'm 60/40 respectively.

Jim O'Brien should not coach another game for the Indiana Pacers. However, Jim O'Brien shouldn't get fired and then receive the rest of this season's money and the extra season that we just gave him. That would be another fiscal misstep on our part that we honestly can't afford (if we were to take on a new coach's salary).

Well we look like total crap tonight against the Heat who aren't that good but we made them look like the Dream team of 1992. Did you see the +/- on our guys? Murphy was -40, D. Jones and Watson were -38.

I'm for blowing the whole thing up keeping Granger, Hansbrough, Rush and Hibbert and see what we can do with everyone else.

Since when are the heat not that good? They're 16-12 and have the 9th ranked defense in the NBA.


I agree we made them look like world beaters but they aren't exactly trash to start with.

And it was a back-to-back on the road for us.

I like that Heat team. They're pretty solid all around this season, but it's fair to say that game was nothing short of embarrassing. As for O'Brien? I couldn't care either way this season.

I don't think O'Brien will be fired unless he loses control of the team. I'd like to see us find a way to unload Murphy and TJ and maybe Foster as well and play the youngsters big minutes. Use the rest of this season as an extended training camp for next year.

Portland needs a big really bad lets move Foster as soon as he's back and healthy to them for Blake and Outlaw, we'd have to put Diener in the deal too. And send Murph to the Cavs for Big Z and a pick and cash. Then either by out Z or let him expire. Next season we load up on some low cost players and Rookies, maybe bring back Blake, trade TJ in the summer or before the season starts for what ever we can get. We could judge O'Brien on how well he developes these young players and make a coaching move at the end of the 2010-11 season. I know that seems like a long time to wait when we're losing but, who is gonna turn this ship around?


Problem here is we are still dealing with the after effects of trading Jack and Harrington for Dunleavy and Murphy. I like both Dun and Murph but their contracts are hampering us and you add to that the TJ factor and Tinsley issue. Since we couldn't trade Jamaal and have his buyout sitting on our books, and that TJ is not living up to his potential, we have $13.5 million tied up at PG.

I don't think the coach is the main problem. The problem may be the attitude of Larry Bird and David Morway.

Where do they think the Pacers are going forward to? Playoffs, or play the young guys?

The Pacers are now losing 6 games in a row, but neither did Larry nor David criticized how O'Brien coach the team. Isn't it obvious that O'Brien is now simply coaching the team the way he's been asked to coach.

I am all for developing young talent at this point. Fans, in general, are more inclined to support young players, if they give effort, because there is more hope for improvement, but with the vets playing it feels hopeless.

JOB should finish the season because of all the injuries, we are not looking to salvage anything anyway. Maybe the Bulls were expecting more.

My point about the trade is that Jack and Al would be expiring this summer.

Anyways, a case could be made for both sides here.

You fire him just for the sake of change. A new voice, since some believe the players have gotten tired of hearing from O'Brien. You fire him because he plays certain players too much and some not enough. You fire him because he says one thing and does another. And ultimately, you fire him because we at least expected to be competitive and we can't even achieve that.

You don't fire him because you can't afford it financially. You don't fire him because there are no better willing options. You don't fire him because doing so would essentially write an end to this season only 30 games in. And finally, you don't fire him because where we are with this team talent-wise right now... it wouldn't even matter. We're basically in neutral until 2011 and these contracts expire.

Bird Says Indiana's O'Brien Is Safe, looks like we'll be active at or before the trade dead line, my guess is we wait til Danny is back and then make a deal or 2. I'm sure they'll be looking to cut some salary with an eye to next seasons payroll.

i do agree we need to get rid of O'Brien he always talks about how the teams defence needs work,but he dont coach defence its not even part of his system,nor was it in Philadelphia or Boston I say let him go and let Lester Conner run the team the rest of the season!

Changing coaches during the season is rarely ever a good idea. O'Brien is not the problem, the roster is. Would I like to see a new coach next season though? Yes.
