For all our teams issues at least we don't have this!

The now-infamous dispute between Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton started over a card game on the team plane and resumed more than a day later in Washington's locker room.
http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... n_dispute/Can you imagine! I'm thinking they're both gonna get susspended for a month! I don't have a problem with the players carrying guns for self protection, but whipping out your gatt and pointing it at a teammate over a gambling debt is insane! Makes Artest look mild! What the hell is the matter with these guys? How much money could it be $5000 maybe? Arenas makes like $16 million this year and is due a hefty $78 million over the 4 seasons, who the hell cares about $5000, or even $10k!
Looks like the Wiz are gonna have to wait to make that trade of Gilbert and filler for TMac.

Yeah, Gilbert isn't going anywhere.
I think all of us can understand though the tough future of having a virtually untradable player of very solid caliber on your roster, who has some serious issues but you still can't void the contract.
Tough for Washington. They're going to have to wait out his contract. Interesting to see what'll happen to Critt and Gil.
One might have to think that this could be the end of Crittenton's NBA career.

Guns drawn? That's some crazy stuff. In a plane. It's like a scene out of Boondocks.

The guns weren't on the plane.
The gambling happened on the plane.
The guns were drawn the next day or two days later in the team locker room.

I figured Gil was pretty much untradable before this. Now, his contract may be worse than Jermaine's ever was.
As to the league's action? Remembering what they did to Artest for going in the stands, isn't drawing a gun in the locker room at least as dangerous? I've always thought the Commissioner over reacted with the suspensions thrown at the Pacers after the brawl. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with here.
All that said, it sounds like this could actually be a felony with mandatory jail time. What the Commish would do might be irrelevent.
Just goes to show there is always someone who's got it worse than us.

I'm surprised I didn't read: "Crittenton was rumored to be coveted by the Indiana Pacers among Jermaine O'Neal to the Lakers trade rumors", knowing our luck.

Well if Arenas is hit with a felony charge here, Washington can completely terminate his contract. From what I've been hearing about this story, the MINIMUM sentence if Arenas is convicted of possessing an illegal firearm is 5 years. The District of Columbia has pretty much the most strict gun laws in all of the U.S. so they DO NOT PLAY when it comes to guns and I'd bet they make an example out of Arenas the way NY did with Plaxico. Supposedly his weapon was registered in the state of Virginia.

So how much do you think Arenas owes Crittendon?

Yeah it's insane I was thinking like the Reservoir Dogs at the end. But from what I gathered the card game was on the plane and the draw down happpened later in the locker room.

I'd assume that would be the case, it's hard to fins a scenario where he could be redeemed after this.
As for Gil, it seems there
might be a case for contract termination, but I'm sure the players union would look to back him here right?
I don't recall correctly, maybe someone can shed some more light on it, but isn't that what happened with Latrell?

Even if Washington wants to void Gil's contract, they have to wait until he's not only charged with a felony, but either pleads guilty or is found guilty in the case as well before they can even have the chance of voiding it. However, that could take 2 to 3 years if Gil has any decent attorney who knows how to stretch the case out, and even if he's found guilty, the players union would tie this up in arbitration so heavily. In all reality, Washington might be able to get out of the last year, maybe two of Gil's contract if he's found guilty.
But that all doesn't help them in the next 2 or 3 years as they either have to play him, or send him home while still paying him.

If Ron had pulled a gun in an arena he would have immediately been dealt with by Stern. Has David gave a statement yet? If he is not swift in dealing with this transgression STERNLY, he is a punk and has no dignity left.
This isn't Gilbert's first offense, hopefully all the parties involved realize it might be a good idea to hold stupid people accountable of commiting stupid crimes. Gilbert is the next Jayson Williams, so it might be wise to use preventive measures and nulify his contract so the league can lose their association with him before he kills someone. Seriously, this idiot feels so untouchable and above the law that his crime makes Latrell's scuffle seem like a good deed, considering PJ is a jerk-off.

Stern's waiting to hear the findings of the government/DC police before he makes a statement, which I think is smart considering Gil could be facing felony charges. I mean, we don't even know what really happened yet. There's numerous reports with different stories so any statement Stern makes won't be based on all the evidence yet. It's premature.
Gil's not a bad guy man, as hard as that might be to believe in the midst of all of this. You make him sound like Pacman, running up in strip clubs, recklessly shooting people. He's probably one of the nicest people you'll meet, but his greatest fault is he takes things way too lightly. He's always joking, even if it's inappropriate and not a joking matter.
Also, even if the Wizards void his contract, he won't be gone from the league. Teams will line up to try to sign him to cheaper deals, you can bet on that.

It is not normal for 2 millionaires to be pointing guns at each other over a petty gambling debt!

Well for two millionaires maybe, but not celebrity-esque sportsmen who are always in the eye of the media.

If guns were indeed drawn, I expect somebody's career to be over.
It really sucks when this happens in the NBA. In the NFL and MLB, it's attributed more to the players. In the NBA, it's attributed more to the culture of the sport.

I was thinking the same thing. All I've ever heard about Arenas was that he was truly an extremely nice person, to his fans, to the media, etc. His only issue that I've ever heard about is how nonchalant he is about things that some feel should be taken seriously.
