John Wall your #1...who's your consolation prize???

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Thu Jan 14, 2010 2:01 am

Scenerio, the Pacers don't get the no. 1 pick, but do end up in the top 5, thus missing out on John Wall?

Who is your no. 2 option for the Pacers in that case among the players said to be entering the draft?

My pick would be Evan Turner, SG, Ohio State.

What's yours???

Yeah I'm liking Evan Turner if his back is fully healed and it looked it against Purdue. I'm 99% sure he goes pro after that injury scare. Get the big contract and save your money kid!

Earlier this year it would have been Favors but he hasn't produced lately so I gotta go with Turner. We need a SG cuz Rush ain't getting it done. Nbadraft.net comparin Turner to Brandon Roy which is coo wit me. I like Wesley Johnson to next to Granger. Imagine if he turns out to be another Granger.

Derrick Favors.

However, I wouldn't mind the team drafting Turner and then finding some way to trade in the mid first round to nab Greg Monroe (who I really like as a big man but has fallen on draft boards).

You know me too well haha, but as I saw tonight, he's really going to need to bulk up. He has the frame to do it and did bulk up from last season, but he's not NBA ready yet.

But yea, either Ed Davis or Evan Turner. I'm not too high on Favors or Henson.

Guys, it's January and draft talk already? Jeez. I don't even think we started this early last year.

Anyways, I absolutely love Evan Turner. I won't lie and say i've seen many Pacers games this season besides looking at box scores, but Brandon Rush doesn't seem like he will ever develop into the player Larry Bird thought he was.

Did you guys see Turner last night against Purdue? The kid is a beast. Reminds me of Brandon Roy.

One simple reason: we had a better record.

well walls pretty much 97% chance a nj net
turners lookin like a 75-80% chance of bein a wolve
I guess we would have to take favors at 3 if we got it wouldnt we?
Presuming we dont fluke 1st or 2nd pick
Knowing the pacers we will get on a 10 game winning streak near the end of the season and miss the playoffs by 1 game to wind up with the 13-16th pick AGAIN........................................

Actually, it's a common misconception you have. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Draft_Lottery#Process

The worst team actually has only a 25% chance at getting the number 1 pick. 2nd-worst team has a 20% chance, 3rd-worst has a 15% chance, and on down. Every team has a chance at the number 1 pick. So really, NJ only has a 25% of getting wall. (slightly less, as they could conceivably win a ton of games.)

If I'm correct, the Blazers won that Oden draft with like only the 5th or 6th worst record.

If we have the 7th-worst record, we still have a 15% chance of getting one of the top 3 picks.

My draft board (at this point)

1. PG John Wall... of course

2. SG Evan Turner... we could use a good slasher to compliment Granger. He also provides great size, length, and rebounding ability. I also think he has good defensive potential (size + athleticism)... maybe not elite defender, but maybe on par w/ Granger.

3. PF/C Derrick Favors... stock has been falling as he hasn't really put up great stats. I'll be interested to see what his wingspan and standing reach is. I'll stand pat for now.

4. SF/PF Wesley Johnson... It's not a good idea to fall in love with college stats, but its hard not to. 17/9 with almost 2 blocks + steals a game. 45.5 3PT%. Very efficient.

5. SG Xaiver Henry.... I have this guy alot higher than most, but I think eventually his stock will rise. Great shooting range. Already has an NBA body.

Honorable mention(s)...

PF Ed Davis... I think Davis is a long term prospect. Not something I'm looking for at this point. Needs strength. I'm not a fan of weak/soft bigs.

C Cole Aldrich... I just have a man love for Roy and I think it would serve our team best to go in another direction. 3.7 bpg almost changed my mind.

Obviously, I'd die to get John Wall, but being that it would be too good to be true, I will be be satisfied if we can land Turner or Henry.

I'd also like to pick up a late 1st at some point and draft Sherron Collins or another seasoned PG (similar to Price last year).

^^ Great post. My thoughts exactly. Only i would switch Ed Davis with Henry. Doesn't Henry have off court problems prior to going to college? I'm a Syracuse fan and the hype people have here for him is insane. He is by far the best player Cuse have had in years.

Also, if Indy gets a second first round pick, i would love Larry Sanders. What do you guys think of Sanders as a middle to late first rounder? (Obviously assuming they land a PG or SG with first pick)

Who are we kidding? Bird will probably draft Luke Harengody or Robbie Hummel.

OK cool. I was always of the impression that the worse the team record, the increased percentage of the number one pick. So in theory the nets can win 10 in a row and still probably end up with the same chance of securing wall as they do now with only 3 wins.(presuming wolves win over 15 games)

With his impressive return to college ball, I think it would be hard to pass up Evan Turner if he were available.
