Yet another reason Obie needs to go...

O'Brien doesn't want to praise McRoberts
Posted by Mike Wells

This is just plain disgusting---screwing Hibbert, Price--clearly both need to be playing major minutes...and now McRoberts.

He needs to be fired...NOW.

I think Obie's comment is disgusting.
Even if he was frustrated after the loss, this is no way to speak about a guy who pretty much kept the pacers ahead at the end of the 1st quarter and competitive throughout the first half.

Very unprofessional Obie

I'd say O'Brien's coaching is even less relevant than McRoberts' play. O'Brien is not going to be back next year, and the rest of this season is meaningless.

Mike Wells is generally pretty gentle on coaches, but it's clear in his recent posts to the STAR that Obie's act has gotten very old with him, too...

What in heaven's name is the dumb SOB thinking? The season is lost. For heaven's sake, play the kids, stupid!

Truer words havn't been spoken. AJ Price brought some fresh air to a team who was desperate for some kind of a spark. Obviously, Price isn't the next Chris Paul, but, it showed us that wow, maybe we finally do have a NBA caliber PG on the roster after years of searching.... but, back to the bench he goes. I can't stand JOB.

McRoberts has had two solid games now...can't have any of that...you can be assured that Obie will plant his butt solidly back on the bench now that he's shown some promise...

Never could understand why no-one seemed to like McBob--he's easily the most athletic guy on the team. Along with a healthy TH, he could make us solid at the PF position for a long time to come...Granger, that duo, and Hibbert, with Rush and A. J. in the backcourt, plus a couple of decent draft picks could turn into pretty decent rotation...

If by decent, you mean 3-4 top 3 draft picks, then yes, we're right there.

On the plus side, TJ might be held a little higher this off season. Well maybe not, but you never know.

The logic applied to not giving AJ Price minutes is absolutely mind boggling. Yea, lets give minutes to Earl Watson who won't even be on the taem next year? Not giving HIbbert and Rush 30 minutes a game? In the final games of an irrelevent seasaon the overall allocation of minutes we see right now is just unbelievable.

Fire him and bring in Mr. "Momma, There Goes That Man!" himself.

Make it happen, Bird.

I'm sorry. I've lived through the Charlie Weis years as a Notre Dame fan, and the Isiah Thomas years as the Pacers coach. Something about 1st time head coaches worry me. Jackson hasn't even EVER coached at any level. And let's be honest, it's not like he was a tremendous "tutor" to any other PG's on the roster when he was a player at any stop.

Sure, he's got a broadcaster career going, but he's probably going to have to go out there and show that he can coach somewhere before he just up and gets a head coaching job in the NBA.

Larry Bird was a 1st time coach. :)

Come on, Scoot, You're better than that!

Nah, I'm more than willing to proclaim him the exception to the rule. Hell, I don't even want Larry to take over the team at any point as other GM's have (Bowers, McHale, Thomas, etc.)

I am sick and tired of Obie as much as the next fan, but really how many times does it need to be said. He's not going anywhere. Larry even said so himself. I get it, I do. Larry has set in motion a plan to have the team of the future "complete" at the end of the 2011 summer.

Whats the point of bringing in a new coach next season to coach around a group of guys that wont even be here the following year. Murphy, Dunleavy, Ford, Foster. Then the coach has to completely revamp his system due to 4 or 5 new guys on the roster.

As much as it hurts and is hard to watch. I say we stick with Jim for one more year. Let Larry "complete" this team of the future. Then bring in a coach.

Besides what decent coach in his right mind would want to come here right now? Sure you can find a coach but to get a good caliber coach, first we will have to get our **** in order.

Besides, we might as well keep getting good draft picks and bring in young talent for the next 2 drafts. We can rely on Obie to do that.

Also, Sam Mitchell is still my front runner. Larry showed a lot of interest in him before he resigned with Toronto. I think he's the perfect fit.

I do want to point out, that like everyone else. I am sick of Aj, Rush, Hibbert, and McRoberts not getting more time. The only reasoning behind this is maybe we are trying to showcase Ford, Murphy, Dunleavy to help trade scenarios this summer. Otherwise it's inexcusable.

But there seem to be a lot of signs that O'Brien has lost the players. From my outsider's perspective, seems like a new coach would be a needed breath of fresh air, especially for a team that should be making the development of its young players its top priority.

It makes me nervous that the Pacers just might be in bad enough shape financially to decide to pinch pennies next year and keep O'Brien on rather than paying him severance.
