CBS Sports Speculation: Granger on trade block?

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Sun Mar 21, 2010 5:48 am

It's only speculation of course, i don't think he's saying anything between the lines, except just speculating his opinion, or is he? This is Ken Berger's recent column on Danny Granger and the Indiana Pacers. I read a lot of Berger's columns and i find him to be a very knowledgeable guy. He works out of New York City and is known to have a ton of Knicks connections, so maybe, there is something here....

Did another potential superstar just join the 2010 orbit with that statement? Only if the Pacers pursued the unlikely approach of trading their best player as part of yet another attempt at rebuilding. But remember that Walsh drafted Granger, remember how much he loves tall, long shooters and recognize how unpredictable free-agent movement is going to be come July 1.

If the Knicks struck out on LeBron and had to settle for Joe Johnson, would Walsh then shift gears, find a way to massage David Lee's $11 million cap hold into the equation by retaining his Bird rights, and pursue a trade for someone of Granger's stature -- perhaps even dangling Lee as the bait? Exploring contingency plans has always been one of Walsh's strengths.

Interesting. Atleast it's something to talk about.

Lee for Granger? We'd need more than that. Of course, he will be PF next to Hibbert's C which would be really nice. And then add a pick from the Knicks, and we add Hansborough or Foster or . And then we start Wall/Rush/Turner/Lee/Hibbert.

Wouldn't be terrible.

Houston has a pick swap option with them and own their 2012 1st outright, we wouldn't see a pick for a long time.

Utah has their pick this year, and as Gremz already stated, Houston has a pick swap option next year, and has the Knicks 1st rounder outright in 2012. That means the earliest NY could include any pick, as of right now, is 2014. Not too interesting, huh.

It would honestly probably take a massive multi-player deal of some combination. Likely something like Granger/Dahntay Jones for Lee S&T/Gallinari/Chandler/Douglass. Literally, every single player of value for Granger and a slightly long-term contract. Can NY afford that? Likely not. When they strike out on LeBron, and end up with Joe Johnson, Danny Granger, Eddy Curry, and literally nothing else, they'll be in some serious trouble. Is that a great team? Even if they go out and try to add a Carmelo in 2011 (where the hell would he play with Granger and Johnson?), how good of a team is that, with no 1st rounders to add cheap young talent to the fold for another couple years? Cap space all used up to that point, but no MLE for 2 years in a row? Literally, just the veterans minimum salary?

Not so good.

The article is not that at all. The article mentions a Granger caliber player, not nessessarily Danny Granger.

Thing is they can get a Joe Johnson or a Lebron James this summer and target one of the top SG's of 2011. There are several to be had.

I'd assume that all our guys would be on the block considering the current situation. As to what the pricetags are, that's anyone's guess.

Any interest in Kaman/Gordon for Granger/filler?

Nope.

Still.

Try it again in a month, I'm pretty sure you'll get the same answer. Even then, it's not what we want. It's what the Pacers want. And they love a Granger/Hibbert combo. I'm not sure they want to overload Hibbert with Kaman, and swap Granger for Gordon.

What would the Pacers be looking for in any Granger deal? Any specific players, picks?

If Granger is ever moved, it would be because he no longer wants to be here. I am pretty sure his value is through the roof, and as of right now it is in our best interest to be content. In order to build a team around him.

So you would do Lee/Chandler for Granger, but not Kaman/Gordon for Granger?

I'm guessing the poster above is a Knicks fan.....

Lee will be ridiculously overpaid and Chandler is a pretty repetitive SG/SF type player. Those can be found easily. I find little to no value in an offer like this.

It's not surprising that Lee is putting up 20/10. He has, literally, no one else to play with.

Sorry, last time Harrington was with the Pacers, he was third fiddle behind Granger. I'm sorry, but he's co #1 in NY right now. Lee, Chandler, Gaillinari, and Harrington?

At least Granger was playing with a healthy Murphy and Dunleavy when he had his monster year last year. And a Hibbert now. There's something. It's a crappy team, yes, but it's something. NY is running a frenetic pace with Lee as the PF AND C. I'd expect him to put up some numbers. Same for Chandler.

And obviously, you want Granger and are more than willing to give up Lee and Chandler for him. However, Lee's expense and new contract drives down his trade value tremendously. You must know this. Chandler is tough. He shows some talent, but plays the most replaceable position in the NBA....swingman.

I have zero interest in David Lee. Chandler would just be redundant.

Unless the Pacers clearly come out ahead, Danny Granger is not going anywhere. He means too much from a PR standpoint, let alone his on-the-court production. He's about as untouchable as untouchable gets. I understand to fans of other teams it might seem like we overvalue him, but when he's the lone bright spot this franchise has seen in a really, really long time you can't blame us.

it's more and more clear that we need to build around Hibbert, not Granger. if that means Danny needs to go, I can live with it.
