P.S. - What do we do with Shockey now? :dontknow:

We need to keep him on a short leash, even if he ends up being the starter (which is very likely)...

bishnykfan wrote:Mario Manningham in round three. I like the pick, seemed like a very productive WR to put with Smith, Toomer, and Plax. I would guess that this pick will mean the end of Sinorice Moss.

We still need a LB or two and some OL help in rounds 4-7.

Why? Giants have more irrelevant WRs they can cut over Moss.

17 Plaxico Burress WR 30 6-5 232 8 Michigan State
87 Domenik Hixon WR 23 6-2 192 2 Akron
15 Michael Jennings WR 28 5-11 181 2 Florida State
82 Brandon London WR 23 6-4 210 R Massachusetts
86 Todd Lowber WR 26 6-3 205 R Ramapo
-- Mario Manningham WR 21 6-0 178 R Michigan
83 Sinorice Moss WR 24 5-8 185 2 Miami (FL)
12 Steve Smith WR 22 5-11 197 R USC
81 Amani Toomer WR 33 6-3 203 12 Michigan
85 David Tyree WR 28 6-0 206 5 Syracuse

Any reason who Lowber would stay instead of Moss?

the former Michigan coach who spent three seasons with the Giants' third-round draft pick, told the Daily News Monday he's confident Manningham won't be any trouble in New York. Carr added that the rookie's past troubles were the result of youth and some bad advice, and he's "hopeful" he learned his lessons well.

"I think Mario is a good person and he's made some choices that he has apologized for," Carr said. "I believe him. I'm confident that he's going to have a very good career."

Manningham slipped all the way to the Giants and the No.95 pick mostly because of drug-related problems that reportedly knocked him completely off the draft boards of some NFL teams. He failed two drug tests during his Michigan career, then lied about it at the NFL scouting combine when some NFL team officials confronted him with the facts.

Despite that, Carr said he's always found the 21-year-old Manningham to be "very truthful and very forthcoming." He just didn't get good advice before the combine began, Carr said.

"He went to the combine without much preparation because he had a problem with his agent," Carr said. "He's made some mistakes. Yet I think he's with an organization that will give him good support. I think the biggest thing is, I'm sure and I'm confident that he's learned some things in this process. He's a young guy."

He's also "a guy with enormous talent," Carr said. As a junior at Michigan last season, Manningham caught 72 passes for 1,174 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games. "He and Braylon Edwards (now with the Cleveland Browns) probably made more big plays here than anybody that I can remember," Carr said.

Of course, nobody doubts Manningham's talent, which the Giants believe was first-round worthy. The only questions are about what goes on inside his head - something Carr was undoubtedly quizzed about before the draft by several NFL teams. Carr wouldn't say what, if anything, he told Giants officials about his former player - "That's in the past," he said - but he did say he thought Manningham was drafted by the right team.

"The biggest thing is that he has an opportunity now to go to a great organization in a very, very difficult environment, where the expectations are big, the media and scrutiny in New York certainly is as intense as it gets," Carr said. "But he's got an opportunity to go in with a great young quarterback, an organization that's coming off of a Super Bowl, so he couldn't ask for a better opportunity. And I think we're all confident that he's going to take advantage of that."
