The New York Giants, who won the Super Bowl with one of the deepest backfields in football, retained one of their key backups Frday, reaching an agreement with halfback Derrick Ward.

Ward, 27, agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million deal that has incentives that could allow him to make another $1 million. He stayed with a backfield that features Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Reuben Droughns.

Ward had five starts last season and rushed for 602 yards and had a 4.8 yard average. He will be entering his fifth season with the Giants.

Thank god. I was worried that we'd cut him loose. Hopefully we will never see Droughns on the field next season.

Droughns did give the Giants 6 Touchdowns. He is just slow now for a RB, he might be better suited now as a FB for another team. But 6 TD's still helped the Giants this season.

According to what I heard Derrick Ward was offered bigger contracts from both the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers. He bypassed millions to stay on the Giants and be a 3rd string RB. He must really love the team. He has a ring already.

Yep, War is a great fit. You have Bradshaw as third down back and rotate between Jacobs and Ward. Reuban may be gone, but I don't see it as that big of a deal personally.
