Giants' Reese: You Never Know What Could Happen
20th April, 2009 - 8:51 am
New York Daily News - With Braylon Edwards on the market and 10 draft picks to play with, Giants general manager Jerry Reese has admitted that a lot could happen.

"You never know what could happen," Reese said last week at his annual pre-draft press conference. "(It's) going to get hot and heavy and we could package some picks and do something with them. So you never know."

Even if New York isn't able to land a receiver like Edwards to replace Plaxico Burress, they could use their additional picks to trade up and take a top-flight pass-catcher.

Dang, more pressure on Reese...

Giants' Players Want Edwards In Blue
22nd April, 2009 - 10:26 am
New York Daily News - A number of Giants' players have admitted that they would like to see the team trade for Browns receiver Braylon Edwards.

"I think he definitely can lock down one side of the field when he's playing his best football," defensive end Justin Tuck said Tuesday. "He has the same kind of effect that Plaxico had. He's a tall receiver that can get downfield in a hurry and stretch the defense, which has the ability to open up our running game."

"I don't know what the coaches are thinking," added receiver Steve Smith. "But I think he's a great player and I think if we got him he would definitely help us."

Percy Harvin supposedly tested positive for weed at the combine. There's a chance he might be available at our slot. Do we take that chance?

The draft stock of Percy Harvin and Brandon Tate may have taken a hit.

Two sources told FOXSports.com that both wide receivers tested positive for marijuana in February at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Before the test results became official, Harvin was considered a potential first-round pick after leaving the University of Florida following his junior season. Tate was projected as a first or second rounder after a solid college career at North Carolina.

Deal is supposedly off now...

Source: Cost too high, Giants likely won't trade for Braylon Edwards

By Ralph Vacchiano
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Wednesday, April 22nd 2009, 11:42 PM

The Giants' hopes of trading for Braylon Edwards are all but dead.

Barring a last-minute drop in the Cleveland Browns' asking price, the Giants do not expect to acquire the big receiver, according to a source familiar with the situation. Giants GM Jerry Reese has told the Browns he will not give up the Giants' first-round draft pick (29th overall) for Edwards, and the Browns apparently won't take less.

The Browns have asked for the Giants' first- and third-round picks - far more than the second- and fifth-round picks the Giants have offered. They had also previously asked for Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka, although the Giants told them that was a deal-breaker.

Stick to your guns, Jerry! If anyone's gonna' cave in, it should be the Browns. Possibly as soon as they get their receiver at #4...

The Cards have supposedly lowered their 'demands' for Boldin, according to Sal Paolantonio. It's now down to a second rounder, and 'other' considerations. We have 2 mid second round picks...

I know I've gotten slack for wanting Harvin ahead of some other guys...but the dude is DYNAMIC when he's not troubled with the off-field stuff. He's just like 'super-Mario' from last Year, who was a steal for us in the 2nd Round because of off-court issues. Mario has been great for us. Another guy we stole who was great for us due to off-field issues in the Draft was Bradshaw. So we can handle them with our Veteran Management and Players. I'd also be ecstatic with Nicks or DHB too.

Hakeem Nicks. Good hands, decent size- 6'1 210, they sy he's the most NFL ready receiver of any drafted so far. I think he'll be a solid receiver, hopefully in the Toomer mold.

I guess this nixes a Edwards or Boldin trade, I thought we shouldve drafted Rey Malaluga from USC, but I like this pick. Reese knows how to draft.

A for what we picked but i would have liked to see JR make some moves and deals. i'm still concerned about who our big target is. nicks is not very tall.

perhaps we draft that 6 ft 5 guy tomorrow or maybe were banking on that tall guy we have on our roster that someone mentioned earlier to use in the red zone.

also. where do we go next in terms of picks tomorrow. i think...(in no order)

safety, G/C, TE, WR(again), and then i dont know after that

Agree completely. If we had a deal in place, Maualuga would have been perfect in the 1st round. But overall, I like our first day.

nfl network said we should have traded for edwards. i agree but am still happy. it think wat we need is ramses barden. the are concerns over his deep threat but we could use him as a specialist red zone wr for fade routes a la fitgerald. he has a 38 in vert. huge for a guy 6" 6.

Wat we really need is lebron james but hes a free agent in 2010. so wen he comes to the k*nicks* we can kidnap him and he can be drawing double teams while jacobs and nicks punch other teams in the mouth.

Giants got their Big target, Ramses Barden 6'6 went to a small school and people passed on him. Brandon Jacobs was a small school guy also and look what he turned out to be. All the highlights I see of him are only in the red zone. Hakeem Nicks is our number one guy, he has great hands and route running. Ramses Barden will be the red zone threat.

6'6 230 I dont care if he's a deep threat. If he can catch that fade that Eli likes to throw in the corner of the end zone he was worth the pick.

Barden is gonna be dirty in this offense. Plax is only 6'4.
