At least from everything I've read, the Jets are reluctant to pay Revis because sheer amount of money Revis is looking for and concerns over a potential work stoppage in 2011. There's been speculation of a lower cap in years to come, so it could be potential devastating to pay Revis what he is looking (15+ millions annually).

The cornerback market was set by a senile Al Davis who paid Nmadi Asomugh an obscene amount. I believe almost 5 million more than any other cornerback. Now Revis wants to trump Nmadi's 3/45 million dollar deal. The Jets don't think one dumb contract should set the market. Also, Revis has an additional two years on his contract and the Jets don't want to set a precedent of giving players new contracts before there new contract expires. Clearly Revis is underpaid but in part it is his own fault. As a rookie, Revis held out for 21 days so that he could receive most of his money upfront which is why he is only making a measly milli this season.

I hope this doesn't turn into the Brandon marshall fiasco and the jets are forced to trade him

Couldnt he just take a band-aid deal that gives him more money regardless.

Revis wants an insane amount of guaranteed money and bonuses while refusing to take a salary lower than Namdi's ridiculous contract. He has no leverage but he wants the Jets to cripple themselves financially with Mangold and others actually expiring soon. He also is coming off of a monster contract for a rookie at his position and he took a 6th year to get more money on this current one (hence having 3 years left). It just isn't right, he should get 11-12 million with nice bonuses and incentives...call it a day and play.

This is stupid. Revis is backing out of a rookie contract he held out for previously. The Jets frontloaded it like he wanted them to and now he doesn't want it. I agree that he should be getting paid more than a million this year, but to be paid more than $15 million to be the highest paid CB in the league instead of the $12 million the Jets offered is just selfish and egotistical. We have other players we need to worry about extending in Mangold and Harris. Revis IS important and he IS amazing, but the Jets can't break the team just for him.

I have a hard time believing the Jets can just let him hold out all year. He'll either be moved 6 or so weeks in or get paid in time to come back for a playoff push. I wouldn't have any sort of confidence in Cromartie and Lowery/Wilson if they were my team's starting CB's.

Today is also August 10. Revis lost a year towards free agency.

They Offered him Zero Guaranteed Money, In the NFL you cant do that ... It's an Insult and thats what prompted the holdout in the 1st place.

Ofcourse what they did to Leon also played a role too

Hey Darelle D'Brick got 34 Million in Guaranteed Money and were offering you zero

He had a remaining guaranteed $20 million over the last two years when they offered the new extension to him back in June.

Sources say he was offered 5 years/$25 million with $10 million guaranteed. Not bad at all for a number 2 RB.

They give in to Revis' full offer, what becomes of Harris and Mangold who will likely demand top lineman and defensive back money on what Revis is asking for? This is all on Revis' ego being the best CB in the league and saying he would accept a contract that was just fifty cents over Asomugha's yearly contract. Don't get me wrong, I think he is the best CB. He deserves more than the $1 million he's getting this year. He deserves high defensive player (not just DBs) money, but for a guy entering just his fourth year in the league, he has to realize the best players in other positions also don't get paid the highest. If he wants to get paid and play for a team that will hold its other key pieces, he needs to accept less.

Post a source. At least post where you heard it from. That goes for any board you post on.

Certain players are replaceable others are not, you cant lock all of these guys up if there all so good but if you can lock up 3 outta 4 thats not bad buit you gotta lock up Revis

We had Kevin Mawae who was the best Center in the AFC and got Mangold

We had Jonathan Vilma, great MLB ... but got Harris in the 3rd Round

Now Revis, this guy is a once in a generation shut down CB (they dont make those anymore) on a defense that blitzes 45% if the time and is single coverage no safety help most of the time. It's laughable to even think Cromartie or Wilson is going to hold Revis Jock Strap locking down #1 WR's w/o any help. Rex is going to have to change his D up w/o Revis.

If you have Cro/Wilson/lowery on #2's and 3's your going to have one of the Best D's of All time no more Pierre Garcon running wild a Legit Super Bowl team, but thats all on paying Revis

Pay the man worry about next year next year

I actually misread the link. The 14 mil wasn't offered, it's what Ian oconnor (ESPN writer) said needed to be offered.

And what's to stop Mangold (even if he did state he's accepted a contract extension won't come this year) and Harris from holding out this year when they see Revis get the contract he wants? Not to mention, both Mangold and Harris are on their last years of their contracts while Revis has three. I agree that you can't replace a shutdown corner in Revis, but how do you replace Mangold, especially after putting a rookie in for Faneca, and Harris THIS year?

I think this is getting a bit out of hand.

We need to find a fix and have Revis' ego come down to earth again. We need to get our players locked up otherwise we could be in trouble.
