The "experts" are predicting that Cromartie will return to his 2007 form because of the Jets superior pass rush. Speculation was that Chargers got down on him for "soft tackling" (e.g. Cromartie's missed tackle on Shonn Greene in the playoff game this past season).

Still, I think a great move by the Jets.

I believe the Jets will now resign Thomas Jones at a cheaper price and then improve the receiving corp. The question is "do we resign Braylon Edwards?"

I'd rather go with the 6'3" 225lb Thomas who has better hands, great body control and who many believe can be a star receiver in the NFL. And Thomas was apparently officially timed at 4.39 in the 40 during the season before he broke his foot so he's no slouch when it comes to speed.

Here's a video of Thomas. Big athletic player that can go up and get the ball above corners (great hands) and who can knock down a tackler or shed a blocker for additional yards after initial contact with the defensive player after the catch.

Tate is basically having a Vernon Gholston-like combine.

I know many on JetsInsider are clamoring for Thomas, but I'm not a fan. Don't get me wrong, the kid has good size and I love the physical aspect to his game. But he is kind of redundant with Cotch and Braylon sharing similar characteristics in their game.

I think Tate could be a gamechanger. He compliments our WR's with his speed and his ability to make plays. He'd be an added weapon for Sanchez and could even help on Special Teams.

I just think Tate balances out the offense and compliments our strengths much better than Thomas would. If Tate's not there, I'd rather just trade down and get a few extra picks out of this one. It's a pretty deep draft.

I'd rather take him and look to deal either Edwards or Cotchery. didn't know that he was a fav on jets insdier though.

Great move by the Jets, awesome job again by Tannenbaum. It gives them the flexibility to go exclusively BPA in the draft while before we had a hole at our second cornerback spot. Cromartie is good, not great, but a good young corner with elite level talent. I'm sure Rex will love to work with him and something interesting I saw on Jetsinsider, Rex said a couple of years ago at Cromartie's pro day that it was the best cornerback workout he had ever seen.

As for the draft, I would love to find a stud pass rusher and add depth along the lines. A wide receiver would be nice but I don't know if they present great value where we pick, we'll see.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

The Cromartie pickup fills the void at #2 CB but I'm not sold on him. The guy plays soft and is a reluctant tackler (anyone watch him stay FAR AWAY from Shonn Greene in the playoffs??). I'm not sold that this is an upgrade over Sheppard at this point (other than Sheppard couldn't stay healthy).

Nice move by my JETS I see them going dline/linebacker with the first pick and really solidifying the d.
hen with teh second going for a best availible player. Our Dline is all older I would love the best avaailble nose tackle

YEA, i HEArd they are going to put a first and third round tag on braylon, so teams will shy away from him... I like braylons size and speed, just not his hands all of the time.. he makes the difficult catches and drops some easy ones...

I love the move, yeah his tackling is suspect but the guy is a ball hawk and is going to get a ton of picks with all our pressure on the QB. I would love to go and get Marshall with our number 1 pick (not sure if that gets it done), also I'm keeping my eye on the Adalius Thomas situation in NE. I really hope they release him he would be a great fit here.

I think we would have a shot at Tate with our pick (he may still be there). Finally with our second rounder address either the O line or D line and we'll be set.

Really pumped for next season even with the tough schedule. Our D is gonna be scary good.

Golden Tate?

IMHO Tate is fools gold. He's putting up great numbers in the 40 but he's also been dropping a lot of passes. He's also just 5'10" and not an ideal target IMHO for Sanchez. I'd rather go with the 6'3" 225lb Thomas who has better hands, great body control and who many believe can be a star receiver in the NFL. Here's a video of Thomas. Big athletic player that can go up and get the ball above corners (great hands) and who can knock down a tackler or shed a blocker for additional yards after initial contact with the defensive player after the catch...as his 25.1 yards per reception this past season would attest. The kid is coming off only his sophmore season and is currently projected as a 2nd round pick (due in part to the broken foot)...this could be the jets chance to get a steal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMK59U6nCuw

Line the 6'3" Thomas on the opposite side of the 6'3" Braylon Edwards and it'll cause the opposing corners fits in coverage and give Sanchez plenty of easy to hit targets...especially in the red zone. Would be like what the Lions have out there for Stafford.

Tate is basically having a Vernon Gholston-like combine.

ND/Giants fan here...

Tates the real deal. Watched every game this year. He was unreal on the outside and really stepped up when Floyd went down. Early in the year Floyd was the number one target. Tate stepped up big time. He's got speed, explosiveness, and is still learning the position (he was a RB in hs). Not sure about his combine numbers but he definietly put up more consistent play on the field than golston

I tackling big strong running backs is the least worry for me when it comes to CB.. can hey cover and tackle WR's is my question.. cromartie has elite level potential, couple that with revis who is an elite corner and you have a nasty duo... not many CB's in the league will tacke shonn green once he gets going... that is a fact...

...Can you say #1 Pass Defense?

NEW YORK -- It just got a lot tougher to throw against the New York Jets.

A few hours before the NFL's free agency period began, the Jets improved their secondary in a big way by agreeing in principle with the San Diego Chargers to acquire talented but troubled cornerback Antonio Cromartie on Thursday night.

The Jets confirmed the deal.

League sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter the Jets will give the Chargers a 2011 third-round draft pick that could turn into a second-round pick.

im so amped about this deal...Cromartie was a stud and has had trouble in san diego he neededa new change and him coming here in rex's system WITH darrelle revis i mean man that could be a lethal combo and just for a 3rd round pick next year hes still only 25 years old...that gives us the first 2 round picks this year to get another wideout and a pass rusher....I can't wait till next year

 Welcome to yesterday.

Yeah there was a thread about this already and really good deal by Tannenbaum (again).

With Revis on the other side scaring the bejesus out of opposing passing attacks Cromartie should see plenty of balls thrown his way and should have a field day in what many criticize is the only thing he does real well (intercepting the ball). Basically a pick your poison approach right now. The added benefit is that with Revis and Cromartie it will give the Jets flexibility to try more things defensively with their safeties and backers and likely result in an even more aggressive defense (which fits right in with Ryan's defensive philosophy).

Now if the Jets can find a pass rusher (who can force QB's to rush their passes in the direction of either Revis or Cromartie) this team can be devastating defensively.

So figure the Jets to focus on either a pass rushing DE or WR in the draft and/or FA.

As long as he doesn't pull being a bi.t.c.h. like he did against us in the playoffs when he didn't want to tackle Greene. I like the deal - filled a need and is young.

I think he'll be fine. He'll get plenty of opportunities to do what he does best, intercept the ball, with Revis on the other side. Should make him happy as a peach. And Ryan did a pretty good job keeping all the personalities in line and not having it be a distraction (even Rhodes) by being the dristraction himself and taking focus away from the players.

Rex aint gonna put up with that bull. Cromartie might have 10 ints just because he is on the field with Revis.

Him and Shonn Greene might have to scrap it out over that late hit tho.
