what he said is true though ... very little charger fans liked cromartie because he takes a lot of risks and with that comes getting burned a lot, he's also soft and isn't physical ... but maybe being the #2 could do well for him.

this year he was -3.5 in pass coverage and the year before that was -14.4

Being #2 should help. In this lineup he should find himself in the Pro Bowl talk and that should motivate his ass. Also Ryan's defense takes chances and that should also fit his style. The cost was minimal and he's still better than Lito Sheppard and whomever else they plugged in there. And the chances of finding a corner in the 3rd round (what they gave up to get him) that can be as good is pretty darn slim. And for it to turn into a 2nd rounder Cromartie would have to live up to billing which, then the previous rationale would still hold...the chances of finding a top pro bowl caliber corner in the 2nd round is also pretty darn slim. Especially one with his height, athleticism and quickness.

Yeah there was a thread about this already and really good deal by Tannenbaum (again).

With Revis on the other side scaring the bejesus out of opposing passing attacks Cromartie should see plenty of balls thrown his way and should have a field day in what many criticize is the only thing he does real well (intercepting the ball). Basically a pick your poison approach right now. The added benefit is that with Revis and Cromartie it will give the Jets flexibility to try more things defensively with their safeties and backers and likely result in an even more aggressive defense (which fits right in with Ryan's defensive philosophy).

Now if the Jets can find a pass rusher (who can force QB's to rush their passes in the direction of either Revis or Cromartie) this team can be devastating defensively.

So figure the Jets to focus on either a pass rushing DE or WR in the draft and/or FA.

The Jets will do this.
- Put Rhodes over the top.
- Slide linebackers underneath.

Cromartie is at his best when the pass rush is there. The Jets certainly get after the QB, despite the lack of sacks. I really think Cromartie will be fine. He is a ballhawk at the end of the day, something this defense was severely lacking.

Jared Odrick in the first round now baby.

He'll be a PROBLEM on number two's in a big way, especially since Revis won't need a Safety protecting him for the most part. That means Cromartie has protection so that he can comfortably take those risks and give us nice rewards. You guys think Rex would take a player without having a plan for him. Dude's talent is unquestionable and the key will be how he's used in any particular system.

I agree his game fits well for gang green. But he isnt a shutdown corner. He will make plays and give up a lot. At least you wont have to rely on Dwight Lowry and/or Lito Sheppard anymore  That alone should help a ton.

Cromartie will play in a different system here, he will play much more man to man coverage as opposed to the zone San Diego used most of the time. It was one of the reasons why the Chargers didn't want him anymore, he complained about their strategy. We got experienced tough veteran leaders in Jenkins, Ellis and Scott who will take care of his attitude. Now Rex is a guy who gets the most out of his defensive players and if you give him an elite level talent like Cromartie to work with, watch out...

Cromartie is far from a role model though, he supposedly has 12 kids in 5 different states. He better realize that this is not only a chance for him to turn his career around but also straighten out his life.

That along with this being a contract year for him can provide a lot of motivation to keep his head on straight and maintain a high level of play on the field. All we had to do was give up a third and the happier I'd be if that gets moved up to a second.

Seems like Coles wants to come back.

I hated his attitude his last year here with Favre, but the guy is a great possession receiver. If there's a chance we could sign him to a cheap deal, I don't think it would be such a bad idea to sign him and move him at slot. He would be an upgrade over Clowney or Woodhead.

I LOVE the fact that it is only a third rounder.

Great Move for the Jets, amazing trading by Tannenbaum yet again.

I feel Cromartie will blossom in Rex's system, and I feel very good.

Well according to NFL.com it's 7 kids from 6 different women and he owes child support to each one, on a rookie contract, this guy is a real dumb ass. LOL

Am I the only one who thought we could get more than a 4th and future 7th? Maybe a 3rd?

^Me too, I for one thought it was a conditional 4th that could potentially move up to 2nd based on performance.

My bad, thanks for clearing that up...

In terms of the Rhodes deal, I think it was obvious that he didn't want to be here. You won't be able to get much back for a guy who doesn't want to play for you in the first place. Other teams knew that and propably used it against Tannenbaum. Better we get something back and get a malcontent off the roster...

He declined to meet with Dennis Thurman, our DB coach, he was benched by Rex... quite a bunch of reasons actually...

This.

Rhodes had a problem and he had to go, and we got fair deal.

Nothing more to say.
