This is a terrible move. They're gonna regret it.

They apparently thought he was overpaid for what he had become. They apparently tried to trade him for the past several weeks, but found no takers.

He was due for a very large payday. Standard procedure in the NFL.

Faneca's level has slipped a lot. His leadership was definitely a big part of what he brought to the game but Vlad the impaler will step in for that RG spot unless Slauson gets it. We needed to get younger on the O-Line and think about the long term.

Anyone heard how he found out he was cut?
On Friday night, Alan Faneca and teammate Nick Mangold were out together for dinner and drinks, joined by their significant others, when Faneca received a phone call from the Jets.

I am a Giant fan so I obviously didn't watch Faneca every snap, but as a football fan this seems to make no sense for the Jets. They are trying to win the Super Bowl next year, so why release Faneca. I heard his contract was just over $7M next year, but $5M or so is guaranteed. So in an uncapped year, they would rather pay Faneca $5M not to play for them rather then $7M to play? I don't understand why they would take away from one of the strengths of their team to save $2M?

Faneca was the weakest link on the offensive line. We have players to pay this upcoming offseason. 33 year old declining guard is not worth the salary he was going to receive now and the upcoming years.

Faneca gave up 7 sacks last year, at Guard. He can't pass protect at all. + We need the cap room and he's getting old. Vlad Ducasse has some potential as well.
I was furious when we gave up Leon. Leon and Nate gone in the same year? God hates me.
McKnight better run wild.

fancea is not the faneca of old...He has lost a step and hes getting paid a lot of money, there going to need al the money they can to resign Harris/Mangold/Dbrick/Revis/Cromartie etc.. also Leon is 28 coming off a serious injury i thought we could of gotten more but i love the joe mcknight pickup

I'm not bitter that either of these guys are gone. and i agree with X in regards to Faneca
and obliviously the Jets doctors weren't sure about Leon's injury. plus he's kinda overrated IMO, he made the pro bowl as a special teamer, NOT as a running back. he'll be missed, but they found his instant replacement with Joe McKnight..this kids is the real deal

Running back is the easiest position to replace in the NFL..you know that.

yea im loving the joe mcknight pickup i was hoping that we would somehow get him i thought him and greene would be a sick tandem, also leon imo is not over rated when healthy hes the best returner in the game and as a running back the guy is legit hes just not a every down back, hes great catching out of the backfield also..if he wasn't 28 and coming off that injury i would of been mad about the deal but we got mcknight and hopefully he can do some things for us

My cousin is BFF's with his agent. The guy is like 26 years old. Cotchery and Leon are his only clients. Dude doesn't know what he's doing.
He told me that if Leon is dealt on draft day, (like I told him he would 3 months ago) he would get me a job on the Jets.
I'm waiting....

I hope we don't regret this move... sometimes chemistry is just so important, and the jets O-line had great chemistry..
