According to draftcountdown the Jets spoke to the following players at the Senior Bowl:
Kendric Burney (CB, North Carolina), Lee Smith (TE, Marshall), Cameron Jordan (DE, California), Brooks Reed (OLB, Arizona), Ryan Kerrigan (OLB, Purdue), Von Miller (OLB, Texas A&M), Kelvin Sheppard (ILB, LSU), Cedric Thornton (DE, Southern Arkansas), Jaiquawn Jarrett (S, Temple), Jason Pinkston (OT, Pittsburgh)
Not to read too much into this but I think you can get a good idea of what the Jets are looking for in the draft. They want to upgrade the front seven and that is definitely needed.

Judging from Tannenbaum's comments looks like Gholston is prolly out. So I'd like to see a pass rushing End targeted early. The list is LB heavy which makes sense.

It would be a HUGE surprise if the first pick isnt used on a pass rushing OLB or an athletic 3-4 DE. Those are the areas of need and both positions look to be extremely deep in this draft.

Why though? I just read the recent article from a Rich Cimini on here that analyzes the position and he does an awful job of describing why NY would want an outside LB. I'm not saying they don't, but his whole article sounds like they have multiple usable bodies with no expiring contracts at the position and is suggestive that OLB is definitely not the number 1 need. So i'm just curious as to what you see NY doing with all of those players he mentioned, who is going to go and under what circumstances if you draft a new LB? He also claims in his link that because of Clay Matthews that NY's pick has a chance of producing great results. That didn't make any sense to me either by the way.

Mel Kiper keeps bringing up Raheem Moore as a Safety who would be huge for this defense...I mean...I guess I wouldn't mind that but it doesn't address pass rush at all. I supposed we could load up later on since it's fairly deep but I would hope if we grab a safety in the first that we plan on trading into the second or back into the first.

Cimini is an idiot... plain and simple...
Jason Taylor is gone so that already frees up a spot on the OLB corps and outside of unknowns like Westerman (who I think can be good), Brown or Crable we got nothing. Gholston is likely gone and Jenkins got cut (might come back on a cheaper deal). So we clearly opened up holes at positions that lacked talent and depth to begin with. Now I think depth wise we are fine with all those practice squad guys that Rex coaches up like Tevaseu, Dixon or Gilbert but in the end we still need difference makers up front and players who can create a pass rush on their own.
Kiper might be on to something with Moore as safety is one of the thinnest positions on the team. Ihedigbo, Pool and Eric Smith are free agents if Im not mistaken and Leonhard is coming off a major injury. In the end I think the Jets will again decide heavily based on how the board is looking and maybe even move around with that pick. They are unorthodox that way and have been great getting their guys in the past. Again though, they should go heavily on defense this draft and I think they will...

An athlete pass rusher who can beat his man one on one is the only player holding this defense back from being the best in the league again and truly dominant... scheme can only get you so far...

True, but out of the guys that are supposed to be in our range, I don't mind Taylor, Wilkerson, or Ayers much.
It has to be mentioned, Cameron Jordan and Prince Amukamara are still available...
