Armed with a top five draft pick im sure there are going to be a lot of conversations in who we should get.

May end up being #7....

Vernon Gholston would be a nice pick, same goes for Quentin Groves and Rey Malualuga if he declares. We need playmakers at the LB spots and we need pass rushers... Kenny Phillips would be a great pick too, pairing him with Rhodes would be nasty!

I would really try to trade down. There are excellent players who fit our system in the mid to late first and the early second but in the top ten I really don't see many guys for the 3-4 who would be good value.

Adding more picks would also prevent us from making a huge mistake with a very high pick and we could still end up with a great player having two picks. That would also open up the opportunity for taking a position that isn't really of need but of great value, like CB or RB. The Cornerback class looks to be pretty deep and Rashard Mendenhall and Jonathan Stewart could be fall...

I would gladly do that...

Here's a little look at the OLB prospects in the upcoming draft. The pass rushing LB is very important for the 3-4 defense to work. We not only were undersized here, but the Jets never got great pass rush throughout the entire year. That has to change in order to get a better defense.


SHAWN CRABLE (Michigan, Senior, 6-5, 245 lbs)
A tremendous athlete who should be able to fill out his frame. Terrific pass rusher and very quick. Had a very good senior season and emerged as a leader for the Wolverines. Undisciplined at times and inconsistent.


VERNON GHOLSTON (Ohio State, Junior, 6-4, 265 lbs)
Built like truck with enormous power. Good bull rush and very aggressive. Really excels getting to the quarterback. Can look lost on a couple of plays and has still a lot to learn.

CLIFF AVRIL (Purdue, Senior, 6-3, 255 lbs)
Very quick off the snap and a great speed rusher. Comes from a program that has a history of producing very good 3-4 outside linebackers (Anthony Spencer, Shaun Phillips and Rosevelt Colvin). Is a little undersized though and could stand to bulk up a little.

DERRICK HARVEY (Florida, Junior, 6-4, 262 lbs)
Looks like the prototype 3-4 outside linebacker. Very quick which helps him to cover a lot of ground. Can be disruptive rushing the passer yet is solid in run support. Natural leader. A little light yet looks like an outstanding prospect.

QUENTIN GROVES (Auburn, Senior, 6-3, 255 lbs)
Oustanding speed and agility. Very experienced and has already played some OLB in college. Can really take over a game and is very explosive. Had some injury trouble in his senior year and also isn't very stout against the run.

I would be happy if the Jets could add either one of these guys. Those kids know how to get to the quarterback and they offer the physical package to play in the 3-4 defense. Gholston and Harvey would most likely cost our first rounder which might even be a bit for them, yet they fit our needs. Crable, Groves and Avirl could all go around the second round, mabye lower or even higher. All have their weaknesses yet bring a unique package to the table which could make them a steal later in the draft.

Harvey has no business going in the top ten at all to me, though a lot can change with a 40 time. Gholston is the best fit from those players, though there are talks now that he wont even make it to our pick. Groves would be perfect if he fell to our second round pick, which could pit us against Groves vs Phillips.

It still looks like we can get Sedrick Ellis at #6.

Would like to get Ellis, but I'd prefer to trade down and try to fill 2 needs, like the Cowboys, maybe we can get Albert at G, and Harvey or Groves with the latter pick.

Harvey will be gone by those picks.

Then Groves will be fine for me. He's certainly an upgrade over Hobson.

It would be the best thing for us to get more picks and fill more holes.

Hobson should have never played outside to begin with. He should play inside next to Harris.

I think everyone but Harris on the LB corps needs to go. (Doesn't include Vilma, because he is essentially gone already.)

Hobson is really underrated and Barton kept him from playing his natural ILB.

Barton is naturally a SAM in a 4-3...
