Unhappy Coles Wants New Deal From Jets
16th February, 2008 - 10:55 am
The Star-Ledger - New York Jets' wide receiver Laveranues Coles wants a new deal from the team, according to the Star-Ledger in New Jersey.

Coles claims that the organization has lied to him about a long-term contract in recent years.

"I don't want to seem like another greedy player, but I feel I've earned the right to know where I'll finish my career," Coles told The Star-Ledger. "I've done everything this organization has asked me to do and I'm asking them to do this for me. I think I've earned that much. I've put it all on the line every Sunday for this organization.

"They've told me for the past two seasons that they would take care of me and now I feel they're stringing me along. I'm not going through this for another year.

"I've played hurt. I've been a leader in the locker room. I've held the team together in bad times. I was an intermediary between management and the players. I sacrificed my numbers for the good of the team...I don't want to be a disgruntled player. I want to be someplace where I'm happy." [READ]

This is probably going to get really ugly. Coles is one of the most respected players in the locker room and franchise. The Jets are known to be ruthless with contracts and this is no good. I have a feeling we should expect another Coles trade.

I now expect him to be cut if not traded.

If that happens then we'll be looking at another 4-12 year... ah it's great to be a Jets fan.

Well, he didn't lay it all on the line in four games last season as he was hurt. Don't get me wrong, he is a tough guy, a leader and all. But last year has to raise some red flags about his durability.

I Really Like Coles, But.....

that being said he is an older player who is above average, but certainly not elite at his position. He supposedly has two guaranteed years left. He can always be extended later if he can maintain his level of play in that timeframe.

If I am management, I would not extend him UNLESS things were said to him in which case those things should be honored.

Hate to break it to you, we are going to be terrible this up coming season; regardless is he is a Jet or not.

I'm going to continue what I've been saying this whole off-season.

Coles is outta here!
