First we trade away Vilma to the Saints for ONLY a conditional third or fourth round pick. So we are getting a third rounder because we all know Vilma is absolutely going to flourish in that system. We were much better off holding onto him making him play this year to prove that he was healthy, franchising him then trading him next offseason.
Then we trade for Kris Jenkins, giving up a third and fifth rounder for a player with many injuries in the past. He is not a true NT, but yet a slight upgrade over Robertson. Gave him a 35 million dollar extension, driving down what little value Robertson had left.
Now we are going to splurge and sign Faneca today probably wasting a whole lot more cap. While I do think he is a great addition, at this point what seemed promising with our cap space is now looking like a Redskins type off season.
This is getting pathetic...

Are you kidding me? This has been a tremendous off season so far so us.
1.) Kris Jenkins is 6'4, 345 pounds, he has huge size, a great motor, he is DEFINITELY a monumental over the 6'1 315 pound DeWayne Robertson.
Go to his website http://www.krisjenkins77.com/ , read his life stories, this dude is a "Mangini" player. He called out his teammates early because they weren't playing with enough heart an energy. He is going to make, Ellis better, Coleman better and most importantly our Linebackers better. No more DRob getting blown up in the middle, we have a tank in the middle, pushing RBs back, and closing gaps. He is just such a huge upgrade at NT over Robertson. And BTW, he has played 32 straight games (2 straight seasons)
2.) Vilma, as much as I loved him, my favorite player, he had to go. He cannot play in the 3-4 because he simply doesn't have the size and strength to play inside, definitely not outside. If he flourishes in New Orleans, we'll get a 3rd, if not, I'm guesisng we'll get a 4th. Obviously, I would want more but he had no position on this roster and with him being moved, imagine if we end up finding another David Harris type player in this draft? Our defense will be immensely improved.
3.) Faneca is a must get. He automatically improves our offense and we get NASTY, something we missed last year. He'll make Ferguson and Mangold better players. This dude is one of the best in his prime, and if the rumor of the 4 year/32M offer is true, that is terrific for us, as guards can play effectively until their mid 30s.
Redskins type offseason? What you mean splurge on often injured mediocore players? Or do you want the typical past jets season and bring in the KVOs and Andre Wadsworths of the world?

One common mistake, people seem to think that the bigger you are better the 3-4 NT you will be. Its all about play recognition, playing in a two gap system is completely different then a one gap system. Think Gilbert Brown and Sam Adams.
We wont be able to find another David Harris because by the minute we are losing our later picks to move up. (3rd and 5th) Plus Vilma had a great value when playing if you knew you were going to move him you do it when he is still playing.
While I dont mind Faneca, he is older and is going to eat a huge proportion of our cap. He is a superior run blocker, but I as long as many other people question he pass protection. Thats not good when you need to evaluate a young QB. To think it only took a million dollars to keep Kendall happy.
At least the KVO'(system signing), Wadsworth(boom/bust low cost) made sense.

KVO was garbage and Wadsworth was just a waste of time. Should Tangini just sit back and suck for the next couple of years and do nothing? No, moves had to be made. Let's not act like this is the equivalent of giving Jerome James and Jared Jeffries 30M dollar contracts, Kris Jenkins is proven and again, a huge upgrade over DBust who is straight up garbage in the 3-4.
Harris should have a party, he's going to be so much better now that he doesnt have to shed tackles and guards at the second level, Jenkins will be occupying while he uses his speed and strength to make game changing plays.
Faneca is well worth every cent if we sign him. Who do you want to play guard? An unproven rookie or do you want Adrian Clarke back to make our running game even more terrible and get Kellen Clemens killed?

Jenkins also has had two major knee surgeries in his career and has also played with vastly superior talent then which we got here. Is he an upgrade? Im not really to sure.
Like said Faneca I have no problem with, but we just dished money to Jenkins and IF we got Faneca thats an awful lot of money for older players. Get Damien Woody, Jordan Gross get Jacob Bell. There are players aside from Faneca.
Jenkins was guaranteed over 3M this year, his contract was ripped up and he's been guaranteed 4M all 5 years with bonuses. Also if we move DRob, his cap figure is so huge that creates so much more cap space for this team. Your saying it like Jenkins just had surgery, he's played in 32 straight NFL games and we gave up a 3rd and a 5th. I'm 100% sure that whoever they get with those picks wont have the impact Jenkins can have for our team over the next 3-5 years.

Jenkins is a terrific addition. He plazed 16 games in both of the last two seasons and he was frustrated with the lack of fire in Carolina. This guz is onlz 28 zears old and alreadz a three time pro bowler. He is a perfect fit for our NT spot and he will definitelz flourish here. This deal with his risks, is terrific for a third and a fifth rounder...
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

Both moves are solid. Jenkins is a huge upgrade over DRob. It's not even close.
We upgraded both lines tremendously and this gives us some flexibility in the draft.

I love these moves, we upgrade in both sides of the lines, if DRob is traded, we save some cap, both Mangold and Ferguson will be impacted by Fanecas arrival. I mean what's so bad about these moves?
As long as we take 2 important key positions in the draft then I'd say we had a great off-season.
My ideal situation for the draft is to trade down the draft to the Cowboys and take their 2 picks(and additional if needed) and hopefully take Groves/Harvey and Malcolm Kelly in the first round(if we can). And in the 2nd round take a RT to replace Clement. My first choice would be Chris Williams, but also wouldn't mind anyone else.
