Another mock draft

Post#1 » by theknicks414 » Mon Apr 21, 2008 12:54 am

On draft day, the top 5 goes as so:

1) Vernon Gholston DE
2) Chris Long DE
3) Glenn Dorsey DT
4) Darren McFadden RB
5) Jake Long OT

leaving the Jets in a pickle. While OTC, Tangini completes a trade with Carolina as they want to pick up Matt Ryan.

Jets Trade: [1]6, Bryan Thomas
Carolina Trades: [1]13, [2]43

next step: get rid of DRob
Jets Trade: Dewayne Robertson, [4]113
Eagles Trade: [3]80

unload Coleman's contract
Jets Trade: Kenyon Coleman
Raiders Trade: [4]104

Draft:
[1]13-Phillip Merling DE- Will be our Trevor Pryce for the next 8-10 years.

[2]36-Quentin Groves OLB- A sack artist to play alongside a more complete LB in Pace.

[2]43-Malcolm Kelly WR- With his stock falling the Jets pounce on him. He is a big target with bad timed speed which falls into the Jets favor. alternatives: Mario Manningham, Hardy if there

[3]80-Ahtyba Rubin NT- DL depth is very important. If he shows he can start right away, him and Pouha would be a great rotation at NT while Jenkins at DE would make our DL elite.

[4]102-Antwaun Molden CB- I'm confident Justin Miller has figured it out and will break out during camp but here is an interesting prospect that can compete for the starting role. 6'1" 200lbs with 4.4 speed has considerable upside.

[4]104-Jonathan Goff ILB- The thumper inside to compliment Harris. very instinctful just like harris

[6]171-Kerry Brown OG- OLine depth
[7]211-Joe Jon Finley TE- Mangini pick

The Giants showed that 43 DLines can be successful with 3 DEs (Strahan, Osi, Tuck) and that the speed of the DEs can cause problems for the OL. It works the other way too as 34 DLines need as much beef as possible and the ideal 34 DL has 3 DTs (Warren, Wilfork, Seymour). Mangini has been trying to replicate what NE has done since day 1. Mangini was also raving with the job Sione Pouha did last year and they resigned him to a new contract. Pouha and Rubin could develop into a solid NT combination. Jenkins at DE would be ideal (think Haloti Ngata). this would leave our defense as so:

[P. Merling] [S. Pouha/A. Rubin] [K. Jenkins]
[Q. Groves] [J. Goff] [D. Harris] [C. Pace]
[J. Miller] [K. Rhodes] [A. Elam] [D. Revis]

OL: D'Brick - Faneca - Mangold - Moore - Woody
QB: Clemens/ Pennington
RB: Thomas Jones/ Leon Washington/ Jesse Chatman
FB: Richardson
WR: Coles/ Cotchery/ Kelly/ Stuckey
TE: Baker/ Franks

I like the picks you made in the draft, but I'd like to keep Coleman. He was our best DLinemen last year and would like to give him another year. I also don't like the trade with Carolina, I think we're giving up too much for the 13th pick
