With the combine finally upon us lets take a minute to discuss who are some of your prospects that you think we should be on the look out for. With the new coach in two and already some rumblings from the first few days the draft could shake up a bit.
So what do you got?

Our obvious needs in terms of starters right now are CB, S, ILB, RG and WR in no particular order. We are already looking to fill most of these needs in free agency so it's tough to look at a certain position that we should address with our first rounder. I like the following prospects at their respective positions and considering at where we sit on draft day:
WR: Hakeem Nicks (UNC), Kenny Britt (Rutgers) - Both seem like good value at 17 at should be able to step right in opposite to Cotchery. Britt is a guy with enormous potential and Nicks is as natural a receiver as they come. A guy who could be had in round two and is rising on a lot of boards in Brian Robiskie from Ohio State. Good size (6-3), great bloodlines and extremely underrated.
RB: Knowshon Moreno (Georgia) - I just love this guy as a prospect and also for the Jets. Great character guy, leader, doesn't have that many miles on his legs and he has proved himself against the best competition in the country. His cutback ability is out of this world. He isn't exactly a homerun hitter but a complete back.
ILB: After Spikes returned to school, the USC guys (Maualuga and Cushing) and Clint Sintim from Virginia seem like the most logical options left. I have my doubts about all of them though. Sintim and Maualuga, while their talent is out of the question, are more upfield LBs that could struggle a great deal in coverage. Cushing to me seems like a workout warrior that is injury prone, never a great combination. He's a New Jersey guy though. Another interesting option is Jasper Brinkley in the later rounds. This guy is a beast against the run and is getting back to 100% after a devastating knee injury last year. Might be more of a two down LB too though.
DE: It's hard to find 3-4 defensive ends and it's no different in this year's draft. Many like Tyson Jackson and think he is a slightly better version than Marcus Spears from the Cowboys who also played for LSU. Spears though played inside in college and Jackson almost exclusively played DE and I have my doubts if he has the game to play inside the entire game. Jarron Gilbert or Demonte Bolden look like good options later on.
NT: With Kris Jenkins wearing down at the end of last season we should definitely see if we can get someone who can spell him on a regular basis. Pouha is a mess. Ron Brace from Boston College is a prototypical NT and has great size for the position (around 6-3 and 330 pounds). He could be had in roudn 2 or 3. Later options include a sleeper like Sammie Lee Hill or Terrance Taylor from Michigan. Taylor though struggled after his great sophomore season and faces a lot of question marks going into the draft.
CB: The top prospect is Malcolm Jenkins and he should be gone before we select. Vontae Davis is next on most boards but struggled a lot during last year. His measurables are perfect though. If we go CB in round one I would likely vote for Alphonso Smith (Wake Forest). Even though he's a bit short (5-9) he is probably the most natural cover guy. Darius Butler from UConn should also be on the Jets radar.
S: Very deep class but no elite talent. We might be able to get a talented guy that falls in round 2 who would be great value such as a Rashard Johnson (Alabama) or maybe William Moore (Missouri). As we are likely signing Jim Leonhard though we are looking at pretty decent S rotation with him, Rhodes and Elam.
P: I hope we address that position this year, Hodges was terrible and cost us in many games last year.

I really want Moreno (possibly trade down?); he's a real complete back.

Yeah me too. Despite his 40 time I have no doubts in my mind that he will have serious success in the NFL. He is a great character kid, a leader, a local NJ guy, can block, run and pass and his inside running and cutback ability is just off the charts. Jones and him wouldn't make the perfect duo but after TJ is gone we would have a true number one already lined up in Knowshon. Interesting fact: Mayock rated him as his 7th overall prospect just yesterday and that just goes to show you that this kid is a special talent who has proved himself against the best competition in college football (unlike Beanie and McCoy I might add)...

The more I read about Sanchez, the more I like him. If he's there, we grab him, any chance we can trade our 2nd and other pieces like the saints third or our fourth for a late first and pick up one of the second tier WRs like DHB or Britt?

Considering the Jets recent approach on draft day, I could definitely see us move around quite a bit again. In recent years the Jets were quick at orchestrating a trade if they saw a chance at a player they really wanted. We did it with Harris, we moved up for Darrelle Revis, Dustin Keller... I would actually be surprised if we don't make some kind of move in the top two rounds again.
I'm not a big fan of Sanchez though. I think he's a bright mind, good kid and can certainly be a leader. But he loses serious velocity on long throws, has limited experience especially against mainly weak competition and he strikes me as a good weather QB. I have my doubts with him doing well in the windy Meadowlands. Plus I see no reason to select another project QB because let's be real, Sanchez is far from being a can't miss prospect...
