Source: Scott agrees to five-year deal
February 27, 2009
All they need now is a thumb's up from Bart Scott.

The Jets and the former Ravens linebacker have agreed in principle on a free-agent contract, a league source tells the Daily News. Scott, one of the most coveted free agents in the NFL, will sign a five-year deal for about $40 million. The Jets outbid the Ravens by $500,000 per year, based on the offer that was presented to him late last night by Baltimore.

Scott, who arrived in Florham Park, N.J., this morning, currently is visiting with team officials at One Jets Drive. He will be reunited with his former Ravens defensive coordinator, Rex Ryan. Scott's agent, Harold Lewis, is waiting for the go-ahead from his client to start the paperwork. At this point, that's a formality.

Scott, 28, will be inserted in the middle of Ryan's 3-4 defense, starting alongside David Harris at inside linebacker. Essentially, the Jets chose Scott over his more heralded, but older teammate, Ray Lewis, who would've been their fallback choice.

Great signing.

From what I heard it is not official yet. There are a lot of conflicting reports. If it's true though it would be a GREAT signing. He knows the defense perfectly, knows and loves our coaches, has something to prove outside of Baltimore and he we will have him for the best years of his career...

I think you're right Mo. He's my #1 choice at LB. Young and will compliment Harris perfectly. Let's hope this happens.

Apparently the Ravens upped their offer to 5 years and 42 million but reports mention that Ryan wants to do everything to get Scott to the Jets... let's hope the bidding war doesn't get out of hand...

Awesome signing! He knows the scheme, can become a leader, is entering his prime, adds violence and toughness to our D and he loves our coaching staff.

Yes, sir. He'll be playing next to David Harris this season.
